I think you are missing my point still. I dont like frodo and sams characters and find their trek with gollum to be boring. Peter mishandled that part of the trilogy. The hobbit should not have that problem because the storyline is far more interesting and involves far more thrilling events than what took place on frodo and sams journey. The dwarves are far more interesting characters with various personalities clashing and playing off one another. Frodo and sam were just boring characters. The dwarves arent. If i had to equate a storyline to the dwarves story in terms of fun it would be aragorn, legalos, and gimlis journey. I mean sam and frodo are two hobbits. The dwarves are funny, wild, crazy, epic, loopy, smart, etc all rolled up into one group. Two hobbits dont even compare to that.

The map is very good and is graphically appealing, but it looks as though it was poorly proofread. Aside from the previously mentioned oversights (Gondor, Minas Tirith, Mordor) there are other details, for example many relatively minor features are labeled, while the River Anduin, Nen Hithoel, Sarn Gebir, the Argonath, etc., are not identified. Anyway, I find the character descriptions and photos of the locations to be intriguing. If the visual companion and official movie guide are any indicator, it looks as though Jackson has done an excellent job. The jury is still out regarding the thematic and historical accuracy that will be presented, but it was a pleasure to see photographs of Hobbit characters instead of paintings. Galadriel looks even more "authentic" than she was portrayed in the Lord of the Rings movies, Hobbiton, Rivendell, and other locations have been given greater detail, and I am looking forward with great anticipation to see The Hobbit story (and the Appendices) brought to life on the screen.

As for Quirky, Tubby, and Dangerous, that was the first order of business for Jackson's crew of making the book filmable. (And Walt only had to deal with seven.) |
