Bought my tickets for 3D 48fps at the Arclight. I'll give it a chance but I'm one that hates the look of 120hz HDTVs. Maybe being shot at the high frame rate will look better than just bumping up the frames on 24fps content.

There's no comparison between the two... 48FPS 3D will be as smooth as silk.

I never attempted to guess what the shield looked like, but that seems reasonable. I have a feeling we may get to see how he came to possess it.

It isn't the smoothness that concerns me, it is the home movie/soap opera effect that I hate. But again, I've only seen converted, not natively shot plus not in 3D which should add its own touch. I'm hoping the higher frame rate will actually make the 3D cleaner.

I'd wager the home-movie effect came from the 4K res,not 48FPS. I have no doubt in my mind that this movie will melt our eyeballs....

Just so long as the script doesn't melt our ears.

Soundtrack - Link to the song, that will play over the credits (like the LOTR trilogy). Neil Finn "Song of the Lonely Mountian."

Yeah. I didn't care for it at first either. But, it's slowly grown on me to tolerable. And actually reminds me of the original Hobbit cartoon, in a weird way. I never cared for the "Pop" songs at the end of the LOTR either.

It sounds like Spinal Tap at the beginning. My wife couldn't take it past a minute. She swears it has to be a joke, and I'm tempted to agree, but part of me thinks it's so goofy, it has to be real.

EDIT

And yes, it does have a sort Rankin/Bass Glenn Yarbrough feel. But sadly, it also has a Chris DeBurgh/Spinal Tap feel as well.

Most likely Radagast's home, Rhosgobel.

It's pretty obvious that Jackson is really turning up the goofiness on him as witnessed by the bird crap going down one side of his head.

Love it! It's nice to have Tolkien's writing for the lyrics this time around. I also love that it uses the wonderful theme from the teaser trailer.

Lived a strange race of people... the Druids

Hewn into the living rock... Of Stonehenge

Stonehenge! Where the demons dwell
Where the banshees live and they do live well
Stonehenge! Where a man's a man
And the children dance to the Pipes of Pan

Hey!

Stonehenge! 'Tis a magic place
Where the moon doth rise with a dragon's face
Stonehenge! Where the virgins lie
And the prayers of devils fill the midnight sky

And you my love, won't you take my hand?
We'll go back in time to that mystic land
Where the dew drops cry and the cats meow
I will take you there, I will show you how

Oh!

And oh how they danced
The little children of Stonehenge
Beneath the haunted moon
For fear that daybreak might come too soon

And where are they now?
The little children of Stonehenge
And what would they say to us?
If we were here... tonight"

Yea, I got a bit of the mash-up vibe also.

Yep, same here.

I actually like it quite a bit.

- EDIT -

OK, I have listened to it a few more times and I LOVE it now!

.

I like it as well. All it is is the song of the misty mountain put to a different beat or tempo or whatever the musical term is that im thinking of.
