I don't see how it looks any more fake, than the backgrounds in LOTR.

[Show spoiler]

It could be the digital cameras used, which creates a sharper image than film, that you may be reacting to.

It means you need to see it in 48fps before you make a judgement. Not by internet pics.

I won't ever do that. If I wanted to watch a soap opera I'd stay at home, sleep in and watch young and the restless.

Soap operas are in 3d 48FPS? It's been a long time since I watched a soap opera.

The assumptions people make about something they haven't seen, is baffling.

I'm probably going to wait for the crowds to die down even though I can't wait to see this.

I can't believe it's less than three weeks away. I have avoided this thread for the most part to avoid spoilers, although I've read the books countless times. I want to go in as blindly to the movie spoilers as possible, which is getting harder to do with all of the commercials on tv.

I have already requested off from work and have several friends lined up to go see it, and I live less than three miles from the theater. Even though I generally don't care for 3D, we will be seeing it in 48fps 3D since it was filmed natively this way, and I'm hoping/expecting it will be much better than any other 3D used before.

I can't wait!

I think what Im going to do is watch the regular 2D version first. Then watch the 48fps version afterwards. I want to concentrate on the film itself on my first viewing, not the technology on display.

For those who didn't see the live broadcast this evening, you can see a replay of the Wellington premiere right here:

That's one thing I've never understood: WHY do grownup fans geek over missing work to see a premiere, when theaters have also held showings at night, pretty much ever since movies were invented?
"Well, it'll be crowded then!" Yeah, unless you reserve tickets online, can do that now. Like the matinee wouldn't be crowded anyway.

(Y'know, you almost want to shed a tear for all the great movie-opening rituals online ticketing has taken away from us in the name of efficiency.
And that's coming from someone who did stand in line for all three Star Wars, and you youngsters' jealousy is quite misplaced.)

Well, I find that some of the most annoying people in the world (aka talkative/laughing teenagers) tend to attend midnight showings - so I make a habit of never going at night. I like to go in the early afternoon.

I guess I should've specified, as much as it's going to drive me crazy to wait, we are going on Monday the 17th in the late morning or early afternoon following the premiere weekend so we can avoid it selling out, and the crowds, and the kids. I didn't so much request a certain day off from work (as my schedule is different week to week), as I just let my boss know that I have plans for that day. I won't be buying my tickets in advance online, I'll just buy one at the door and walk in to watch the movie like I always have.

On the other hand, I will openly admit that I have been looking forward to this for years, as I have been reading Tolkien's books since I was a kid, and as a 42 year old Tolkien-geek, I would gladly lie to my boss and call in sick if I had to in order to go see this.

That is exactly why I usually go on Monday or Tuesday afternoon after the premiere of a new movie. I rarely go out to the theater anymore unless it's something that I can't wait for the blu-ray to see, and I do everything I can to try to make sure it is a pleasant experience.

I also just found out that my local theater will be showing it in RealD 3D and IMAX 3D with the HFR 48p available in either version. I did a little research, and from what I've read, this is what I've gathered:

IMAX: Two stereoscopic projectors, larger curved screen, brighter image, more lifelike 3D, minimized ghosting, improved signal to noise performance, uncompressed lossless HD audio, must meet standards for audio and image quality, IMAX linear polarization has better extinction ratio(seperation?).

RealD: Circular polarization = You can tilt your head sideways with less crosstalk.

Here are some links that I found about it for anyone interested:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthr...FR3D-Questions

http://asia.cnet.com/an-overview-rea...d-62208932.htm

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1347547/imax-3d-vs-reald-3d

The bottom two are just comparing IMAX 3D and RealD 3D in general, but the top one discusses HFR.

His current girlfriend does the age ratings for films released in NZ so she usually sees everything a long time before it it released. Because of her importance film companies attempt to 'bribe' (just my guess ) her (premiere tickets etc) I assume in the hopes she will be 'fair' on the ratings.

*Update*
My partner is texting him now to find out how it was, I will report my findings.
