Bloated and over-indulgent....please god dont let this be true. Beaks comparing it to Skull Island trip in King Kong dropped my jaw, because I was bored out of my mind during that part.

Think of all the good things that have been said about it , don't just focus on the negative.

Bob, I believe that you are going to LOVE this movie.

From Variety's review-

[Show spoiler]
"After Bilbo finally accepts his calling 40 minutes into the picture."

After reading a few of these reviews I am beginning to wonder if instead of seeing an extended edition of these films in the future, maybe we will be getting 'Shortened Editions' instead on BD.

Pretty much the reviews I expected. The geek press seem to love it, while official critics have some issues with length, tone, and 48fps. Roll on December 14!!

at last the phantom menace of the Lord of the rings saga is here!!! that means attack of the clones and even worse revenge of the sith to come !

although this sounds promising

'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is destined to be a stand-alone adventure classic in the vein of The Neverending Story, Willow and Legend, it is surely strongest when viewed as a satisfactory part of a greater whole.'

im sure the fellowship and comments about it being bloated and dull when it first came out. peoples memorys are thickle

The reviews that are critiquing the 48fps are of no interest to me, but the main issues with the slow start and padding are exactly what i was expecting. The comparisons with King Kong are unfortunate, but also fully anticipated, as i thought KK dragged for way too much of it's time and was sorely over-indulgent.

The comment from AICN is the main thing that worries me the most: "The first colossal misstep is Jackson's baffling decision to film the dwarf dinner at Bag End in what feels like real time. This is where it becomes painfully apparent that Jackson is stretching a 300-page story well past the snapping point."

I've said before that provided the film doesn't subtract content and instead Adds to it then i'll be happy with the result. It just means i can skip past the padding when it hits Blu Ray. I'll most certainly see it at the cinema, but just once, i think.

Reviews are not important. Trust your own judgement. You should not be surprised of mixed reviews for any movie. Especially this one which made a controversial decision to shoot in 48fps. People will resist to changes. Always have and always will. Maybe the pace is slow for some and maybe its the right pace for others. There is no objective answer to this. Maybe the majority will hate it now, but in 20 years they will look back in awe. You can't know, so "Trust Thyself".

On what planet are WILLOW and LEGEND considered to be "classic"? I have LEGEND on Blu but its appeal is nostalgic. It's not actually a good film, imo, and nor is WILLOW.

I'm only interested in THE HOBBIT for the 48fps 3D experiment. I thought the LOTR trilogy was wildly over-rated and I kind-of agree that Tolkein was pretty bad on plot. He was a great world-builder but that's about it.

I did like KING KONG though but, as with LOTR, it was hugely indulgent. I happened to like the world so I didn[t mind spending more time than was necessary in it but I can see how it would be a massive bore for others. Same is true of these movies.

I'll go to see it but I think I'll probaby agree with the criticisms.

He seems more upset that there wasn't a vast amount of females in it to entertain him.

I was just discussing this review with a friend of mine and we decided to just ignore all reviews.

No matter how many bad reviews this movie gets, by the end of the year Jackson will swim in money.

Seems like most of the reviews and comments from people who have seen it are very positive.
