What annoys me about some of your reactions is that most of the reviews are positive, yet a lot of you just focus on a few negative points.

Rotten Tomaters score is up to 78%.

No need to worry.

Did anybody watch that 'Goblin Chase' clip?

I LOVED that shot of all those goblins
[Show spoiler]doing that Tarzan swing and getting all wound up.

That's my favorite shot so far. Had an unexpected very good chuckle from that. I think that I am going to dig this movie.

I won't speak for anyone else, but all I was reffering to was that the film looks a bit boring and uneventful, and a couple of reviews echoed that. Also that the CGI is a bit of a disappointment. I'm sure others will still enjoy the film.

I, er, THINK that was a joke about Benny Hill's 60's-70's video-film-video framerates on the Thames PAL exports, but I'm...not sure. Have to work on that one for a few days.

("And tell me, Fred Scuttlebaggins, has it been difficult dealing with dwarves?"
"Well, you know how it is, sir, they have their own funny ways--I mean, on Saturday nights, when they go out with the tall girls, they just.....have a different view of things. Oh, but they can be a strange lot sometimes, sir--They've all got their particular customs and traditions, it's hard to make sense of sometimes."
"They have little peccadillos?"
"I've never held that against them, sir."

Correct. Not the true ones.

But the much much smaller LIE-MAX versions, some will have it.

So there is no need to hunt one of those theaters down if you have a regular Digital 3D theater close by you.

Boy! This issue sure has become VERY interesting.

Those AVATAR sequels that Cameron is planning on shooting in 60-FPS should really be something!

have to say, I'm hanging out to see this water fall ;_)

So a 3D showing is required to experience the 48 fps?

Yes.

It was developed specifically regarding the issues of 3D. Such as ghosting and people getting headaches.

Lie-Max or Real 3D?, those are my only two options.

I fall into the headache category but I do put up with it because I love me a good 3D film.

Did you see the list of theaters showing in HFR? Looks like both will offer it, but there's many more non-IMAX screens.

This may have been posted earlier. IMAX locations showing The Hobbit in 3D 48FPS: http://www.48fpsmovies.com/2012/11/0...or-the-hobbit/

Apparently all IMAX theaters equipped for 48FPS are not showing The Hobbit in 3D 48FPS: http://www.48fpsmovies.com/48-fps-theater-list/

I'm going to check with the one that I'm going to to verify. The first list doesn't list them as showing The Hobbit in 48FPS, but the second list shows them equipped to do so.

EDIT: So, I will be able to watch it in IMAX 3D or HFR 3D at my local theater. I'll do both.

I've read a lot of comments and the general negative take on HFR seems to be "I was so distracted by something beautiful I haven't seen before that I was too busy soaking up the imagery to follow what is going on" ...So yeah, because they are wowed by something new it is a... bad thing?

If it breaks suspension of disbelief, then yes, it is bad.

I believe that key here might just be watching it in 24 the first time, then 68 for the second viewing.

Check out this amended review from chicagotribune-

Quote:
SECOND THOUGHTS: At the time this story was originally published on Monday night, I was seeing "The Hobbit" for the second time, again at 48fps. And I have to admit that not only did the movie strike me as better - faster and more entertaining, though still padded and at times silly - but the format wasn't as bothersome.

I still think the high frame rate takes you out of the movie at times, particularly in scenes that feature well-lit actors prominently in the frame. But about half the time, the format came closer to justifying Jackson's experiment than it had seemed on first viewing.

So maybe I'm just one of those viewers who needs more time to adjust.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...,4811548.story

The 2nd time is the charm(in 48fps).
