I'm having second thoughts as well, might catch it 24fps Imax instead and if i can try the 48fps later on. This will surely be in theaters for at least 2 months.

Pal runs 4% because there isn't much of a conversion process going on. Put simply PAL just plays 24fps material at 25fps thus a 4% speed up. NTSC uses a "pull-down" conversion process that creates interlaced "fields" (as opposed to progressive "frames") that forces the 24fps source to fit into 30fps, thus no real-time speed discrepancy.

Going from 48fps to 24fps is no trick at all. Simply drop every other frame. No speed discrepancy.

I have a Sony TV that is set the same way. I am not fully utilizing the motion enhancer, just part way. I do NOT like the motion engine turned all the way on.

I am still looking forward to seeing the Hobbit in 48fps. That way when I b***h about it, I'll have legitimate grounds for forming such an opinion. But who knows perhaps I will like it.

Does anyone know how to find out if their local theater is playing the 24 fps or 48 fps?

You can check theonering.net list here: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012...x-dolby-atmos/

Or you can use any of the online ticket resources... I know fandango, list High Frame rate. But, that is all dependent on your local theater.

My theater wasn't listed on the first website. I went to fandango and I didn't see anything about a higher frame rate. So does that mean it probably doesn't have a higher frame rate?

Yes. Most likely. To find out for sure, I would call the theater.

I dont know what theater chain you use, but I would go there directly instead of fandango.

for example, I have regal theaters, and on their site for my theater, it has the 3 types of showing listed and times- 2D, HFR 3D (this is the 48fps showing signified by the High Frame Rate designation), and then IMAX 3D (no HFR symbol means no 48fps)

the one for my buddy in CA, Regal Hacienda, shows it has HFR IMAX 3D

so you should be able to find it without calling your theater. But as has been said, the only way to be certain is to call.

Yeah, I go through amc theaters and I see absolutly nothing about frame rate. Which is really making me think that my theater won't play it in the 48fps.

Also keep in mind that they are updating that list daily. So keep checking it regularly. If your theater is not on the list today, it might be on it next week.

Good luck

My theater has 24fps 2D, regular 3D and the 48fps 3D.

Probably going to watch the 2D first, and if I'm up for it, watch the 48fps version later on. That way and I can breaks during some parts, cuz three two hours and forty minutes is a long time for a 3D movie.

I wonder if any of you guys are going to the midnight showing of this?

I was considering on doing that. But if I did, I would have to chug some Mt Dews right before showtime to stay awake. However I do not want to be having to use the restroom multiple times and miss some action.

I will probably try for a matinee Friday morning or mid-afternoon. If those are too crowed then I will try for my coveted opening week spot of Sunday morning.

Has anybody seen this issue yet?

If you look towards the bottom left they have the first look at The Desolation of Smaug in it!

We are. Honestly, I would rather see it on Friday/Saturday but we already bought our tickets. I want to get there early-I intend to get there around 830-900, and I'm already dreading the immature fools during the wait...I become very cranky and "vocal" at stupid people.

I do plan on taking a nap beforehand, seeing that I have to work the next morning.

Oh wow! I can't imagine getting much sleep after seeing a 3 hour movie that has loads of action in it. If I go to the midnight showing I could not see me being able to get some shut eye for many many hours after that. LOL

Hope you guys have a blast.

Yeah that might be the case, cause here's proof of what it would look like based on the AMC theater by me. They have 2D, 3D, 3D HFR, and IMAX 3D

Thanks for that! It really confirms to me that my theater just doesn't have the option.
