In my experience Jackson is of the David Lean "more is more" school of filmmaking. Personally, I think the director's cuts of his films tend flow much better and more fulfillingly than the theatrical cuts. They're longer, but actually FEEL shorter.

All we need now is the French to come back and the world of Cinema would come full circle.

Meh, Cumberbatch is one of the most homely men I've ever seen. Not that it's all about looks, but lordy!

Is he? Interesting choice. I think I like that.

Does his voice actually sound like it does in Star Trek? Seemed very villain-y to be real...

I think he was playing up his voice for the role in Star Trek but it's not so different to what it's really like.

Cool. Sounds a bit Smaug-y to me.

Can't wait for the trailer. Now we just need an announcement on an extended edition release date.

I wish i could find an example of Francis de Wolff from the 1968 BBC Radio drama of The Hobbit, his performance as Smaug was absolutely first class, coming across as both incredibly ancient and powerful. The BBC also did incredible work on the sound design for the adaptation, to anyone who has listened to it, hard to believe the series is 45 years old... Here's the first episode...

As well as playing The Necromancer, however he'll be portrayed in the next two films (perhaps the unfolding shadow form we saw in AUJ will be the only form and the only manner of speaking we see him take).

On a more positive note, the poster looks excellent. Nice work there. I keep having my eye drawn to the entrance of the mountain, trying to work out if there is something in the smoke...

Yeah, I was being sarcastic. I'm very much interested in extended versions. The Hobbit was my favorite film of 2012. I'll probably buy all the theatrical versions and then spring for the extended version of the films in a box set, if one is ever released that is.

Where is it going live?

The Hobbit is one of my favourite books ever. It was the first book I properly read as a kid. I really loved the film, despite some minor niggles, and really hope for an extended edition soon. I really want to watch it!

I imagine it will be everywhere almost immediately - well, at least the usual film sites like Coming Soon, Collider, Ain't It Cool, etc - but I would keep an eye on the official Facebook feeds for The Hobbit, Weta, Peter Jackson, etc, or sites like theonering.net. Or here - I'm sure someone will post it pretty quickly!
