Nice trailer. Wish Legolas wasn't included in the final battle...guaranteed silliness.

Having watched the trailer four times now, I love it. SO EXCITED.

The Battle of Five Armies, the battle itself that is, is going to be spectacular.

He may not be Conan, but Bilbo is no ordinary Hobbit and has been through shit not many other people in Middle Earth would survive or dare do. And him standing face to face with Smaug and not pissing himself puts him above Conan as far as Im concerned.

So there won't be a fourth movie, then?

He wasn't even IN the battle, in the book!

Either he left or was knocked out (can't recall?), but he missed out on the battle and thus was one of the few to survive--
Since the battle was all about Who Wanted the Gold in the first place, and he was quite happy with his share, he didn't really get that involved with all that nonsense in the first place.

(But then, that was the book where Bilbo was the main character, not the movie series where Thorin is the main character.)

Biblo is still the main character in this. Thorin = Aragon and Aragon wasn't the main character of the LOTR either.

Bilbo was knocked out by a rock thrown by an orc while he was trying to sit out the battle on the spur of the mountain held by the elves. Apparently he had put on the Ring in an additional attempt to avoid the fray, because he was invisible when people were searching for him after the battle. Notice there is no spoiler alert associated with this, because if the first two film installments are any indicator, this isn't going to happen in the film version. If Bilbo can't keep the Ring on when talking to Smaug odds are that will carry through here. However, Jackson is good at portraying battles, and since this is his last hurrah in Middle-earth, I imagine he will throw everything and the kitchen sink into this one. I wonder what he will do to distinguish the Battle of "the" Five Armies from the previous battles at Helm's Deep and Pelennor Fields (other than
[Show spoiler] what should be the spectacular presence of Beorn and also what I imagine will be the tear-jerking demise of the love-confused Tauriel
.

It seems to me that EricJ is correct: with the exception of the beginning, Thorin - not Bilbo - is the emphasis of Jackson's The Hobbit. So perhaps a more appropriate title would have been "The Dwarf".

But speaking of Aragorn, with all of the superfluous characters and situations that Jackson has imposed upon this story, I still don't understand why he did not include Aragorn at Rivendell? Jackson is desparately trying to tie his version of the Hobbit with his LotR movies, for example with the inclusion of Legolas and Frodo. So along with scenes that never would have happened (such as those in the EE with the dwarves taking a bath in the fountain) why not actually include important and legitimate scenes such as the young Aragorn (even if only as a cameo) that would help cement the three Hobbit movies together with the three LotR movies into a six movie saga, which seems to be his overall goal?

They asked Viggo to be apart of this and he said no because Aragorn was not in the books thus should not be in the movies. he was the only original actor offered a part that turned it down.

Wow. If that's true its pretty damn decent of him to actually do that.

Viggo's exact words were: ""Before they started shooting, back in 2008, one of the producers did ask if I would be interested. I said, 'You do know, don't you, that Aragorn isn't in The Hobbit? That there is a 60-year gap between the books?'"
