Except that there was no official linking of the release of the LOTR EEs with The Hobbit. That was something people cooked up on their own.

I'm not sure I want PJ to direct it. I want the film to have a different feel and not be the same exact formula that LOTR was. Also I want the film to be very dark and stray away from too much CG. Spieldburg would ruin it IMO. Not that he isn't one of the greatest directors of our time. A big NO IMO on Sam Raimi. Fincher is a interesting choice

I agree Spielberg is wrong for the project, because he would make it his own film. Fincher is wrong for the exact same reason. The series needs a director who can adapt to the franchise, not re-invent it. That's why I suggested Martin Campbell.

Fincher directing the Hobbit? Might as well as ask for David Lynch or Cronenberg or Sofia Coppola.

Even if Del Toro tries to deliver a Hobbit movie the way Jackson delivered Lord of the rings, I still doubt he will capture the story. Only because of the differences in style.

Its like having Zemickis working on Jaws 2 after Speilberg or Bay taking over productions of Pirates of the Caribbean leads to a different film based on style. And that doesn't always work well with the audience.

Jackson will likely step in at this point. Del Toro was going to be somewhat of a puppet during this process anyway - Jackson has way too emotionally involved with the material to let someone just take control of how it will end up. If anything, this smells of Del Toro stepping aside so that Jackson can take the helm.

That's what happens when every movie you make flops at the box office. Eventually you have to lean into the strike zone and make a commercial film.

With Guillermo del Toro now off The Hobbit, there's been much speculation that the film's co-screenwriter and executive producer, Peter Jackson, would step in to replace him seeing as how he won an Oscar for helming the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Jackson told The Dominion Post that it's possible that he could replace del Toro. "If that's what I have to do to protect Warner Bros' investment, then obviously that's one angle which I'll explore," he said. Unfortunately, he also has other obligations on his plate right now, namely directing the second film in Tintin. "The other studios may not let me out of the contracts."

Likewise, Jackson's manager, Ken Kamins, informed Thompson on Hollywood that his client can't consider "that at this time because he has and has had other commitments and obligations to other projects. That said, he and Fran [Walsh] will stop at nothing to protect this franchise and the investment made by New Line, Warners and MGM."

This is the first i have heard of PJ even considering directing the hobbit, If this is true I am very happy as i think he did a phenomenal job with the first 3.

I was thinking that very same thing. He just got some serious free time (approximately 2 years), so hopefully Hellboy 3 can be made sooner than later. Something tells me that Warner Bros. will most likely hike up his salary to entice him to come back for The Hobbit though.

It wasn't about the money though, it was the delays and having to spend more years away from home.
