Agreed.

I can't help but think of how the 'Moria/Khazad-dûm section' of The Fellowship of the Ring would have looked in 3D.

Bilbo was 50 in The Hobbit. Frodo was also 50 in THe Lord of the Ring.
Hobbits age well.

I see. Well Elijah Wood was about 20 when The Fellowship of the Ring came out so I can see Freeman being a bit too old if they plan on matching that. Though Ian Holm was looking a bit older in the flashback scene when he finds the ring. I suppose going younger than Freeman wouldn't be a bad option to look into.

So sick of the 3D fad.
Im sick of ignorant haters

If its shot in 3D all that means in an optional feature that you can elect out of if you don't like it. Don't like it see the 2D version and leave 3D fans alone

WTF is ignorant or hateful about what I said? I said nothing about fans of 3D I simply respectfully disagreed.

But now that you're worked up and mad, I do think 3D guzzlers are easily bought fools.

You don't like 3D thats fine.

However to wish that those who like 3D not be allowed to enjoy The Hobbit that way is just wrong. 3D likers never complain when a movie is given 2D showings. We just want to option. I don't have a problem with those who simply don't enjoy a 3D option but anyone who hates that such an option exists is a hater plain and simple

I just do not get that part. I think that every single movie that will ever be made and ever has been made would benefit from a 3D shoot, in regards to the benefit I get while watching them. I like the extra dimension, it really adds to the complete immersion like every other tech breakthrough in movies (color, surround sound, high def, etc.).

When DVD first came out, I had a friend who though only big action movies justified DVD. Just like how some people think that comedies do not need to be on Blu-ray.

I think The Hobbit will look awesome in 3D! The textures of the clothing will look amazing! The trees, spiders- wargs (sp?), beards on dwarves, mountains, caves, etc. etc. etc. will all look spectacular.

I agree but 3D will present added challenges to the Hobbit. In the Lord of the Rings trilogy to simulate the Hobbits size they often would photograph actors further away to give the illusion that two actors are staring at each other when in reality they are far apart. However this illusion relays on the fact that the cameras was in 2D and could not detect the difference in depth. A 3D camera would notice this and the illusion would be destroyed.

So some scenes will probably have to be conversions or use a different method to produce the size differences while still maintaining the 3D depth. I have no doubt they can do it but it will be a challenge.

Very good point you make. I didn't even think of that. Well, we have had a decade for technology to move up a bit. You might be right that some scenes may need post conversion.

Hopefully the VFX are improved over the previous trilogy on this matter. While most of the effects are great, some of the proportions are a bit more obvious, especially when they use little people (or kids) as doubles. I could always tell the difference.

They can still shoot the actors in 3D and digitally composite them in the scene and can simplely digitally resize the actors. This is certainly possible but it is an added challenge now that they can no longer take advantage of the cameras lack of depth. Im still thankful that they are doing it. Native 3D Fusion Cameras have yet to produce a poor 3D presentation and Im sure The Hobbit will not be the first.

Hopefully the first trilogy will get a proper conversion with time as well.

Very excited that this got the green light finally, it's about time! Also looking forward to Martin Freeman (hopefully ) getting the role of Bilbo Baggins, because I think he'd be absolutely brilliant in the role. Hopefully it all works out and we get him, and the rumored David Tennant as well in the movie. That would be great to see him in this as well

I could honestly care less about the 3D, but that's just because I don't care for it much. I'm glad you guys who love 3D will get it the way you want, and I'll enjoy it in 2D the way I want/ We'll all win

Thank you. You show maturity that anti-3D people rarely display. Even if you don't like 3D a 2D option will always be there for you. I love that the free choice is avalible.

People who complain that a 3D option is avalible just because they don't like it are loathsome creatures.

The way I see it, 3D is here for now. I see everyones arguments, and I can see both sides opinions. And I understand for some people, the 2D isn't an option in their area, and that is easily the biggest problem for some. So I understand their frustration.

Honestly, as long as everyones happy in the end though, we really shouldn't have to argue about it. What really matters in the end is the movie, yes? So let's just hope the movie turns out quality before we worry about the 3D

Yep. That is only logical that those things would follow because use of technology in a film obviously determines the content of the film. I agree with the many many many actors and filmmakers who stated that audio in film was a gimmick and made movies worse. One can't possibly make a good film with audio, color, surround sound, in high def, or 3D without detracting from the story.

The Hobbit's content SHOULD be exactly the same in every regard as if it was filmed in 2D. That is my opinion.

I like pj's point of view.

Absolutely agree with the first point. If it's a well done movie, it should look the same in 2D as it does in 3D with very little gimmick, as long as they are doing it just for depth, and not being gimmicky. And seeing as this is The Hobbit, I'm going to believe it's the former

Glad you like my point of view Vegeta, us Nor cal dudes have to stick together
