You must be in Europe or somewhere much farther east than me.
I'm still getting 10 days and 6 hours, so I guess you'll get to see it 9 hours before me.

Sorry if this was discussed already, but any idea or thoughts or where the fillms will split? Seems to me like right before they enter the Mirkwood would be a good split. I'm currently rereading this, so I've been on the lookout for a good split place.

I just reread this last week, and think the best place to split would be when they
[Show spoiler]are all captured by the Wood Elves.
They'd end it on sort of a cliff-hanger for those who never read the story.

That is a good guess. By that time
[Show spoiler] Gandalf will also have ridden away to the White Council
, so everything will be left hanging in the air for "maximum return to the theater intrigue".

I could see that, but I think it could also split when they are
[Show spoiler]leaving Laketown, heading toward the Lonely Mountain, showing the ominous mountain in the background.

There is still alot of story after that; seeing the desolation of Smaug, finding the secret door, talking to Smaug, then him attacking the mountain(and Laketown), the dwarves fortifying the mountain, and obviously the battle, and the return home.

Who knows?!

Yea you all have some good examples, but the problem is just how much extra stuff are they writing into the movie like they did to LotRs. (Frodo's little trip to Osgiliath, for one case in point).

Still earning $50 million a year after being dead for almost 38 years? I'm surprised it isn't more, but the release of the Hobbit movie should take care of that.

Orlando Bloom: In or Out of The Hobbit?

March 16th, 2011 by xoanon

Orlando BloomMona2505 sends this in: Seems that Orlando Bloom is in fact still in talks concerning the hobbit. Came across an interview today, where he refuses to comment on the Hobbit as he is not allowed to. You can find the original interview here. I happened to come across a translation of that interview here, just in case you don’t speak Spanish.

“…and his return to the Elvish world” The Hobbit “movie about he does not say a word. “They do not allow me”, he explains.”

What make you of this news?

There's too much cash involved for him to turn it down. He'll be in it.

Since Legolas is not directly named in the Hobbit, it probably means that PJ is going to stick with the original story and not re-write that part (hooray!). He will probably be in the scenes where Legolas' father, the Elven King of Mirkwood has dealings with the dwarves.

‘Hobbit’ rehearsals happening now says Gandalf

March 17th, 2011 by MrCere

Sir Ian McKellen has updated his Hobbit blog and describes the process of preparing to roll film (or digital memory) on Peter Jackson’s pair of films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.” It sounds like an ideal day. Check out the whole entry but this is a good taste:

“And I was there too, in Hobbiton, with a semi-circle of dwarves and Bilbo, their reluctant host. I was at the cast’s first joint rehearsal where Peter Jackson, with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, invited our comments on their script so far.”

Did we just get a hint that the screenplay is in a state of constant revision as it was with Jackson’s LOTR films? Sounds like it. For film fans, catch your breath, these are the moments before the starting gun goes off. Time to party likes its 1999! (Thanks to the many who sent in links.)
