I love realism....in the right places. I LOVE the 24p look that movies have and I'll never stop loving it, but I've also resorted to using motion interpolation on a handful of films because it really seems to jive with the source material, creating more temporal smoothness without egregious motion artefacts.

Yes, since frames are invented with motion estimation, artifacts can be produced which, unfortunately, have the potential to degrade the imagery. Which is why for the study it was a pleasure to see the extra value of native HFR shot content as displayed on the MikroM, (click on the 'professional displays' hyperlink here…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post12290748....55" size was used.

For those who are not subscribers, it still makes me wince to read the last paragraph of that Dec. issue AC magazine article…”Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk has been released in 24-fps, 60-fps and 120-fps versions.”

Yes, clearly the article was put to bed a while before release and it wasn't updated. Fascinating article nonetheless.

![]() ![]() I’m also liberal with submitting accurate detail specific DCI/DCP info onto other threads, e.g.….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...i#post12841617 , when it arguably would be equally suited for distribution on thee o-fficial 4K Movies Releases thread here, but what the hell, when I’m feeling dynamic, I just keep typing away. Did you notice the movie Fences got a rather uncommon SMPTE DCP? On that note, in an effort to provide more nuanced information that is not common knowledge…. 59% of all the SMPTE Digital Cinema Standards have not made their way into the marketplace! Most of that 59% define SMPTE DCP, which by any measure, has not been successful in replacing interop DCP which is the package you’ve been posting for various movies over the years….on whatever thread. We (as an industry) should do better than that. |

Unless you have a tv with good black levels, I'd skip pacific rim and go with Ghostbusters 2016. It's sharper and has better colors. Though the full screen aspect ratio is nice. |
