So Leicester vs Chelsea, no one expected us to win or even draw, but I really thought we'd give Chelsea a go for it and for the first half, this really seemed the case, I went into the second half brimming with pride. But God that last half an hour...
If Chelsea needed to prove why they are the Champion contenders, and that we're the team everyone expects to go back down, they just need to play the game from the sixtieth minute. We don't have enough bodies in our squad and our squad don't have the fitness to play on this level either. It's all well and good going for it, but also completely futile if they haven't got the fitness to carry it, especially as what we don't need is more injuries (which it looks like we might end up with anyway) can't help but feel a more obvious, defensive stance would have actually served us better. It's hard not to see those first hour or so of pure ambition from Leicester as entirely pointless. We need more reserves, even if they're no name cheap players from God knows where, we just need the man power and if Vardy is going to remain off for a few more games due to injuries we need someone better than Nugent on the receiving end of balls from Mahrez and Schlupp, since Nugent - infuriatingly - wasted every one and they were some FANTASTIC chances. |

As I am sure you know, any points against the big teams are always going to be bonus points. It's all about winning your own little battle with the likes of Burnley, QPR, palace etc.. Do that and you will stop up.
Let's see how you do before the window closes but I agree with you about personnel. Although you always need that mixture of quality to go with the squad fillers otherwise there is only one result. I don't rate Nugent and by the sounds of it, you don't either. A fifteen goal a season man can keep you up but it's tough getting that quality in. Don't be too down beat though. It's a long long season. |

Bringing on Fletcher, the overweight, middle aged striker into midfield made me embarrassed to be a fan for the closing minutes of the game. Fletcher is a decent player in the box, but outside of it, he plays as fat, and middle aged, as he is. I'd rather they brought on some ball boy from Lithuania they got for 500 pounds, than him.
I think Nugent is a decent player, but he didn't bring it to the Chelsea game and there is nothing more frustrating than watching your team make fantastic chances and then having the guy who is supposed to seal the deal, constantly fumble it. Mahrez was serving goals on a plate, and our midfield and defence were so in sync I really thought we looked better than Chelsea for much of the game. Everyone went from expecting us to be crushed, to some people believing we could at least get one goal in, to some even expecting us to possibly seal a draw but Nugent almost single handedly threw that away. |

Awful performance today and undeserving of a tie, regardless of the fact that Everton's second was clearly an offside goal. We were atrocious defensively today and pretty iffy on the offense too - first shot on goal in the 65th minute. Not good enough. Will gladly take the point though.

Watched MOTD up until the Leicester Recap. Watching it again, Nugent really pisses me off but under all the tension I really didn't appreciate quite how wonderful Schmeichel is, between him and Moragn we've at least got a Premiership level defence. Even if newer evidence seems to suggest the combination actually caused one of Chelsea's goals but I still think they were an effective combination, and the most consistent part of our side.
In other games though, I thought a lot of teams looked really poor. Palace are clearly having a really shit time of it off the pitch, and it reflects in their play on it. Unless they can do something magic in this last week of the transfer window I can see a really, really bad season ahead. Lukaku lit up Everton's side, but it seems they had paid off the officials and the poor decision making from the officials ended up doing more for the squad than the team did. The management really needs to break out Everton's bad habit of switching off, too. Leicester got the better of them twice because of it, and now Arsenal have just done that in glorious fashion too. Both are teams with a weak finish, so when Everton are facing down a team like say Chelsea with Drogba and Costa up front, if they continue to switch off I can see them getting defeated in really humiliating fashion. |

Poor result last night. Dominated the first 30-40 mins but the back four needs a lot of work.
Lovern's positioning was all over the place. Sturridge better off playing with a partner so would expect Mario to start at White Heart Lane Sunday. Last edited by David LFC; 08-26-2014 at 12:21 PM. |
