I saw that. I too thought that was Steed until I noticed the blue shirt under the green jacket. I swear it looked like that spectator was sitting right next to a lady on his right holding a baby?......and when Sunderland scored and everyone in the stands stood up, I wondered if the baby slept through the whole celebration?

I don’t know. I have mixed feelings. Tob? I’m thinking if Arsenal were to finish below Tottenham maybe that would put more pressure on thee AFC front office to make changes so next year doesn’t turn out to be yet another Groundhog Day for Arsenal supporters.

So happy for the LCFC supporters, the town, the Prem and football in general with the team’s accomplishment. To me, it is a testament to hard work. ![]() ![]() |

Credit to the manager and team that they approached the game so professionally. It would have been easy to be in 'party mode'. Stands them in good stead for next season.

Wenger said in his press conference the other day that if Spurs finish above us for the first time in over 20 years that its only a one off. They are improving as a team hate to say that but don't get your hopes up for the summer and next season Penton. |

^ Some fair points, but Leicester are hardly alone in their flouting of FFP. Not saying that makes it alright, but as the saying goes "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission". Still, Bournemouth's success has never sat easy with me as a plucky underdog story either, as their Russian millionaire owner who's been bankrolling them rarely gets mentioned in the same breath. But managing to get promoted and to stay up is one thing, to win the Premier League (FFP rules broken or not, they've still spent FAR less than any of the big boys) is quite another.
Their expenditure does tie in with why I don't think small clubs are suddenly going to be scrambling to 'do a Leicester' though, as if it goes wrong the club could be left in a world of hurt financially. We've had FAR too much of that at Palace over the last two decades (the Goldberg era was basically the above in a nutshell, he thought he could throw money around, buying Lombardo and hiring Venables as manager etc but we got relegated, went into administration and set the club on a troubled path for the next 15-odd years) so the club will live STRICTLY within its means under Parish and Co. If that means having to "settle" for mid-table mediocrity then so be it, and Palace have NEVER gone beyond four seasons in the top flight so even if we finish 17th next season then it'll literally be a historic achievement for us. The Premier League title can wait. As for Vardy being a big time charlie, I mentioned his penchant for £1000 backpacks way back in the thread and am fully aware of the ankle adornment he had to wear (not to mention Danny Simpson who's currently sitting on an assault charge against his girlfriend) so these men aren't all squeaky clean working-class idols, but they are bloody good footballers. 'Twas ever thus. So, all in all, my bubble hasn't been burst. Leicester's victory will resound throughout footballing history, as well it should. Last edited by Geoff D; 05-10-2016 at 11:36 PM. |

Utd left it late to arrive (again) though tob. That's NO excuse for the actions of the fans but having to thread your team bus through crowded streets filled with opposition supporters is never a good idea. Makes me wonder if it's some sort of LVG tactic to piss the opposition off (backfired today if it was) or whether those guys REALLY need to remember to charge up the satnav before they leave the team hotel.

Interesting alternative take on the FFP thing from Martin Samuel in today's Mail. He basically sees FFP as a means for the big boys to permanently cement their place in football's elite, i.e. by forcing clubs to spend within their means then the smaller outfits would never be able to smash that glass ceiling, unable to compete with the vast commercial incomes of the established big guns. He basically applauds Leicester and Bournemouth for flouting the rules because that's the only way they could've hoped to realistically compete (and not just survive) in English's football's top tier.
Not sure I agree with all of that, given the points further above about how it may well lead to other clubs without rich sugar daddies trying their luck financially and ending up in ruin. Hmmm. |
