Bah. Sometimes I am actually right when I'm being Captain Pessimistic. You could all see the shortcomings of Palace, there's just no control, no movement, no forethought, and the final ball from Wilf and Bolasie tends to be rather wayward.
Palace just didn't have enough quality to see it out, and when Smalling got sent off I was dreading it rather than celebrating, as Palace usually struggle against 10 rather than the other way around. (I know we got back into the game when Clattenberk sent someone off at West Ham but it's not like we went on to win that game, and David can tell you what happened at Selhurst vs Liverpool.) Utd should've won it in normal time TBH but Palace went ahead with a goal from a sub (as per 1990) but then Utd equalised with 7 minutes left (as per 1990, okay it was actually 9 minutes but close enough ![]() ![]() Last edited by Geoff D; 05-21-2016 at 08:11 PM. |

Oh, and I hope y'all can appreciate why I despise Mark Clattenburg, he's quite simply a terrible referee because it's all about him, about stopping the play IMMEDIATELY and bringing it back so that he can get his face on TV brandishing a card. Prick.

Luck wasn't a factor though, we just weren't good enough and have been well and truly off the boil for much too long. Coppell had it exactly right when he said we flattered to deceive in that first half of the season, as this is our true level - plucky battlers with precious little quality - and we're going to struggle big time next season. [edit] And it's all well and good people wondering out loud why other clubs don't just 'do a Leicester', but that final sums up exactly why I've always been so vehement when arguing against such viewpoints: it's not just about having spirit and togetherness and the willingness to have a go, it's about having QUALITY in all areas of the pitch (and off it too, for that matter) and that's why Palace and the rest of the smaller fry will continue to do what they do. There is no one set formula to emulating Leicester's success because EVERYTHING came together at just the right time on both a micro and macro level which allowed the club to do what it did...others will not be so fortunate. I think its a shame after Van Gaal brought a cup back to United and being the first manager since Ferguson to win silverware that he has to have these questions about his job these past few months and again in his press conference today. He has shown class and dignity something their new manager knows nothing about. |

Lovely piece in the Express today about the Palace support (unlike the Mail which barely mentions Palace in their coverage aside from a little sub-article), the display looked amazing on the TV and until Utd actually scored I barely heard a peep from their fans unlike the Palace lot who were singing throughout. Well done lads and lasses.

Sums up my feelings about the reconnect with fans I was talking about. Good read and accurate IMO. Mentions the Roker roar and how that could inspire the team on to great things in the future. |
