Football's basically turning into a Chinese/Middle-Eastern super league, not in terms of a club's geography but in terms of who pays the most wonga. I've long been wary of these megadeals and what they entail for a tinpot club like my beloved Palace (dropping something like £70M on players last season) but this Neymar deal is so absurd it's nudging into the realm of satire. Still, it makes £50M for Kyle Walker look like a bargain now!

Hi lads. Onholiday, just thought I would post a few lines.

First of all, I got to watch the match at a pub and I was quite happy with a draw considering we were losing. It's going to take time for a team of virtual strangers to blend but there were some positive signs. Mcgeady was a threat with is willingness to attack at every opportunity and the young lads did very well. Being and Cattermole were solid as well. I am thinking chance of a play off place at the moment. Who knows, if we add two or three maybe even better. We have hardly any money so my expectations are lower.

Not a bad warm up Tob. Good luck with the season.

To the guy who asked about the fantasy football thing? I have signed up. Don't know if he wanted to do something in particular through the forum but I simply didn't have time as things have been hectic last week.

I decided it was best for me to stay off here, and focus on the positives rather than remind myself of the negatives (but not everything on this forum has been negative). Things are quiet with UK football league discussion between May and early August. Have mostly kept up to speed with new Blu-ray and DVD film and TV titles (series 2 of Shoestring finally!).

Just over three weeks to go until the transfer window closes. We have signed three new players - Jay Rodriguez, a Chinese player (on a three year deal, the first two years of which, he has to play in Europe. He's playing at Werner Bremen) and an Egyptian player.

Have put Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2 back on the planner (on series link) for this weekend. However, I have to ask, when does Gary Lineker's contract with the BBC with regards to presenting Match of the Day expire?

West.Brom said they are not finish in the transfer market yet so it could go down to the last day with them OceanBlue.

It usually does with West Brom, Tob. Typical West Brom. They'll probably get a player on loan. It hasn't been clear how much money the club have got to spend on new players during this transfer window.

The most recent book I've read was a football-themed book by former Match of the Day 2 presenter Adrian Chiles, about what it is like to be a West Brom fan, called We Don't Know What We're Doing. Once I'd got into the book, I thought it was very funny at times, as well as being sad and touching.

Ch5 isn't too bad. There's more football. Less hot air.

And no Shearer analysis amounting to "x team needs to head and kick the ball more if they expect to win."

if anyone is interested, good win in the league cup last night. Local lad Honeyman had a superb game and hit his first goal for Sunderland. Great to see all the backroom staff giving him a hug at the end, it obviously meant a lot to him. MCgeady was a danger throughout and is obviously a class above. On to Norwich on Sunday. Hopefully we can get our first league win.

The League cup is seen as a competition that is bottom of the bigger clubs targets for the season but its still a good way to see the youngsters in action.
