Before the Sunderland match and also before the Arsenal match, from the feed we get here in the U.S., I heard classical music being played while the players were in the tunnel waiting to come onto the field.

What was that? and is this a common occurrence before matches at some venues?

When the players are in the tunnel before they come out many stadiums play anything from classical music to movie soundtracks like Rocky to get the home team and fans a big lift before the match.

Me too! It rocked (at both venues).

I never got that (pre-show glimpse and audio) with the Fox Sports coverage, so this is new for me/us with the NBC Sports Network coverage. Plus we get many more shots of the fans in the stadium. One thing I noticed was it seems to me that Sunderland has more families and females than the supporters at other venues. Is this true or just a misconception due to my limited viewing with our new broadcaster this year?

Do they often play that resounding classical score, or do they mix it up with other stuff. In other words, do these different stadium venues have different favorite motivating music for the players and spectators?

You guys get cheerleaders! We get classical music.

No,you are right. I used to go with friends but due to work, married life (for them) we split. I now take both sisters and they love it. It's a family thing although there is always that creeping threat of violence at football grounds but for the most part it is now a much safer environment IMO

As for your question about the music, yes it differs amongst most clubs.
However, I do feel music is used during goal celebrations to improve the 'lack of atmosphere' at some of the smaller, poorly supported clubs. For the main though, yes it is a motivation thing for clubs

Here's a pointless story, I'm bored. My first Man United match my dad took me to was an away match against QPR, way back in the day when they had an AstroTurf pitch. I'm guessing I was around 10. Anyway at the end of the match a bunch of the crowd ran on to the pitch. We were way up in the stands but I remember the fear and going to my dad, "Look Daddy! Hooliganism!"
One of my earliest memories.
The End.

So, query to you other club supporters (unless Steed also knows this and can answer), what favorite tune is played regularly at your stadiums? You see, I know soccer well , but I don’t get access to this real world Prem venue knowledge in my neck of the woods.

Tob, does the Emirates have a favorite tune?

I also have an early memory which has been indelibly sketched in my mind for years in regards to fans and the field of play. Pardon the off-topic, e.g. American football.

My Dad also took me to a football (American) game (well, we went to all the home games), but this one was back in 1971 between the Baltimore Colts and the Miami Dolphins. For context, watch to at least the 3 min. mark of this YouTube clip. While at the stadium that day with my Dad, I made a mental note never to run onto a professional football field as a fan. Drunk or sober -

Well, he did remind me of my Dad ...the good times we shared...and the best friend I had at the time as a young whipper-snapper, my German Shepherd whom I went everywhere with...except Memorial Stadium (where the Colts played).

Funny what you remember in times past.

I had a little google, I must've been about 6 or 7.
Good old memories. I used to walk my dog Choccy in the mornings before school and had my morning wee with him outside in the garden.

Arsenal have a simple fans chant where we sing 1-0 to the Arsenal, 1-0 to the Arsenal over and over again because of our 1-0 win over Parma in the cup winners cup in Copenhagen in 1994.

I thought it was because of the George graham days when you always used to win 1 0?

I do know quite a few but I will leave it to match attendees to inform you Penton Man.

As an aside, in the olden days of our old ground, Roker Park, players came out onto pitch to the tune of the old black and white classic tv show, z-cars!

Penton man, there is at least one current premier league club that still comes out to that music. Can you guess which team? Certain members will know already obviously but this one is for you.

See if you can spot it on your football channels over the next two or three weeks. If you can, answer my question by Halloween night (give you time to catch up with all your football). If you up for that, should be good.
