It’s all connected. I think at the very minimum it helps to increase awareness of theater goers who don’t normally follow consumer electronics much/or at all, to the value of HDR….subsequently adding to their knowledge base for when they do eventually purchase their next TV, without being clueless to the advantages of the format.

If nothing of significance be offered in West Hollywood, there’s “HDR10+ Ecosystem Update (20 min)” at the end of July in Denver – http://mile-high.video/

Thanks for the info.

I just find it odd that HDR10+ updates are merely a footnote here and there with a loud recycled nonsense/BS marketing puff piece every once in a while, whereas Dolby Vision just has great, REAL announcements all of the time.

it just really gives off a vibe that the samsung payroll for HDR10+ ain't stretching very far, which isn't because of a lack of money in the pocket if you catch my drift.

It took I believe over two years before DV started to be utilized on some UHD Blu-ray discs. It will take time before HDR10+ will appear on UHD discs.

In that case it should be currently streaming all over the place then, as I remember streaming dolby vision back in like 2015.

we don't even have a demo file.

Lots of World Cup coverage both in the mainstream press and audio/video centric sites given broadcast in HDR to some viewers around the globe. Nicest benefit of it all to me so far (as who goes thru from the groups is usually quite predictable [except for the Group of Death each tournament] and the real drama begins with the knockout stage, this year beginning June 30th) is that a fellow teammate I played soccer with in high school and whom I hadn’t heard from in decades due to our busy day-to-day lives and him working overseas much of the time and with a 0 digital footprint (no facebook site, no tweeter activity, etc.), given all the World Cup clamor, reached out to me yesterday out of the blue to say ‘Hi’, catch up on what we’d each being doing since then and reminisce about our old playing days and general socializing when we weren’t in the act of studying when we then went on to play at university.

Personally, that reconnect phone call could end up being one of the highlights, if not thee highlight of the 2018 tournament for me. I hope this tournament incentivizes others to reconnect with old friends and make new ones be they other connoisseurs of the sport or relative newbies to ‘the most beautiful game’ and tournament….just please, internet folks, use spoilers in the social media discussions as some of us watch these matches on a delayed basis due to other commitments.

To step(over-soccer pun) away for a moment from soccer in HDR and move to current movie making in Vancouver
ICYMI, the trailer's out -

and, again for the record, as some of us have known on Blu-ray.com (long before other AV blogger websites) that “animated movies have the potential to be the sweetest eye candy of the HDR frontier” - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...r#post12569724

I’m always cautious of organizations that may appear to be moving at a snail’s pace (e.g. https://www.hdr10plus.org/), but are playing the long game. I think it’s still too early to tell how adept they are, ultimately, as a competing force to DoVi.

Is there a quantified value for this? Like say, "a 100" 100 nit screen is perceived to look x f/stops brighter than a 50" 100nit screen or a 100nit 90º field of view is perceived as 2x brighter than a 100nit 45º" ?

latest research (the resulting model) to be published this year in TAP…..
https://achapiro.github.io/

Influence of Screen Size and Field of View on Perceived Brightness

‘We present a study into the perception of display brightness as related to the physical size and distance of the screen from the observer. Brightness perception is a complex topic, which is influenced by a number of lower and higher order factors - with empirical evidence from the cinema industry suggesting that display size may play a significant role. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a series of user studies exploring brightness perception for a range of displays and distances from the observer that span representative use scenarios. Our results suggest that retinal size is not sufficient to explain the range of discovered brightness variations, but is sufficient in combination with physical distance from the observer. The resulting model can be used as a step towards perceptually correcting image brightness perception based on target display parameters. This can be leveraged for energy management and the preservation of artistic intent. A pilot study suggests that adaptation luminance is an additional factor for the magnitude of the effect.’

Speaking of which, I have just watched a game (no spoilers) in VR and wow! once we get to higher resolution and wireless, this could be a genuine game changer.
