These two sets are better suited for different environments. If I was regularly watching movies in a dark or semi-darkened room, I would definitely go with the SXRD. If the room is usually bright and the monitor will be used during the day, the LCD can punch through all that ambient light better. |

paidgeek, just a quick question on BD-J. The Guardian has an interactive feature on The Guardian that is listed as only compatible on the PS3 and PC players. Is it possible for future firmware updates to allow this to be played back on standalone players like my Panny?

paidgeek, can you comment a little more on the Neilsen numbers you stated in the insiders thread on AVS that have Blu-ray ahead since Dec 24th.
Can you share any of those numbers or is there anywhere that actually has those numbers available for the public to see? |

Paidgeek
Microsoft went overseas to companys like Studio Canal and others all over the world who owned rights to BD only movies to publish HD-DVD movies in territories HD-DVD has no chance in, just so it has an argument for movies from BD studios avail on their format. Can sony not do the same? Why not go around and find out who owns a large chunk of Universal movies (like Jurrasic Park, E.T., Back To The Future, etc) from say Afghanistan (just an example lol) and help them make BD50 MPEG2/PCM releases and just let people import them to strike back? Is this not feasible? Is it already being done? Thanks. |

Paidgeek,
I may have missed this one in either insiders thread, but with the news out of France regarding HD DVD releases via Warner and their IME plans, is there anything about this particular feature that can be talked about in more general terms in regards to being fully implemented in BD? |

Yep. There have been posts at one point or another that various Warner titles were being held back until they could replicate the IME features in BD. With Warner going strong into the second half of 2007 via HD DVD in terms of key titles, the sooner these features are available the better of course. This is especially true in the US where TotalHD is their plan and most of their releases will be in that format. Would they just excise it? I know paidgeek can't answer that, but I'm really wondering what's still hindering true IME-like capability.
Is it in the authoring side? Or the hardware side? |

It is not likely that this will play on anything but a PS3 as Disney designed it specifically for that platform. |

This is in the works. You are right in that HD-DVD has been trying to make inroads in Europe, but the hammer is about to drop...PS3 in March.... |

The WSJ thirds that first part about two weeks ago, so here I am with:
![]() ![]() ![]() Paidgeek: BD is outselling HD-DVD 3:1? If that trend holds AT ALL, I just cannot see how Universal doesn't get ready shift gears before long and we get this nonsense done with! This kind of information needs to make it out to the press! ![]() |

That 3:1 ratio will make more of an impact as the HD disc formats, as a whole, become more successful.
I.e., the more discs that are actually sold, the harder it will be for Universal to stay exclusive to HD-DVD. I don't know if paidgeek can post actual sales numbers per title, but that is the stat that I would really like to see. I'm sure the figures are still miniscule compared to DVD. |
