It is very interesting that you would mention this. The only reason I don't want to become an insider for Disney is that my temperament wouldn't allow me to be very civil around Amir. I already got him once here for making false statements about Dts, and trumping Dolby Digital as if it were the savior of audio. Most of us who work with these legacy codecs know better. But that little exchange pissed me off a little because he was omitting so many facts, and replacing it with so much misinformation that it wasn't even funny. Sometimes my passionate latino roots foresake me

I would never be a insider at AVMS, I declined them twice when they asked me. The environment is too toxic for me to remain professional at all times. Know thy self is very wise advice that me grandmama gave me a long time ago.

Hi to all Insiders.

Without mentioning titles (unless you can), what features are you most looking forward to seeing come to fruition on Blu-ray?

I just wanted to voice my support for you and the other insiders desicion on this. Most of the people there have their mind made up anyway and just want to argue and cause problems. They dont listen to you, just argue. I think your valuable time would be better served at a more neutral environment.

New rules at the insider thread on AVS.

Please play fair.

Thank you!!

i hear this a lot from all of you respectable insiders....so....

PAID, TERRENCE, TALK, PENTON & anyone else with inside street cred...

Are any of you making plans to be at CEDIA? If so, Amir should be publicly confronted with his own deliberate misinformation. Print out a list of his AVS posts. Make copies for himself and the press. And go statement by statement in readback mode, asking him to back up his claims and why he has been deliberately "uneducating" folks with malleable minds and thereby persuading them to alienate Blu-Ray and embrace HD DVD through FUD. (Much like MSNBC's "To Catch A Predator"...film it, upload it to YouTube and call it "To Catch An Insider")

This is a lie. I can prove it, but I'd like to give you the opportunity to retract it before I do. Let me repeat what you have said:(we) can make HD DV without a single dime from anyone.

Translation……..
In the future, the postings of Amir or any other M$ “insider” that talks about the competing format will be deleted …………..well……… eventually when we get around to it.
Plus, no sanctions or reprimands will be given so, there’s not much downside for you naughty insiders, except of course for the energy expended in typing up the FUD.

(We mods will allow the post stay up awhile so that it can disseminate and propagate by HD DVD advocates on other threads outside the “Insider’s Thread” to get good FUD exposure that way, nevertheless).

And if the above doesn’t prove successful, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if eventually over time this new rule brings on a new generation of threads started outside the realm of the AVMS Insider’s Thread with introductions like……
“I have been told by a very credible HD DVD insider (wink) that Blu-ray can’t do this, can’t do that, is too expensive to work, etc.
Please discuss prolifically”….

And thus heralds the newest AVMS species…..^ The Surrogate Insider.
But wait, (like Amir and Andy like to say) don’t they already have one?
That movie reviewer dude that suddenly became a Paramount Studio and BD50 replication expert…………..overnight?

And most IMPORTANTLY, how about those “insiders” that are not official “representatives from either camp” but based on their past history of postings you know damn well what camp they live in...........like Tivo dealers, movie reviewers for instance.

The possible circumventions are numerous when the game is rigged to begin with. One just needs to be more creative.

I found a substitute for the secret decoder ring and figured this one out...so to keep on topic...how about another riddle?

But, but, the Tivo dealer sells both formats, so he must be neutral! And the movie reviewer says he reviews both and is "tough" on both, so he must be neutral....!

I would rather they just admit their preferences and be done with it.

I'd love to know any information regarding any new releases in regards to Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, or the two new SG-1 movies next year.

That "movie reviewer" is the reason why I don't visit DVDTalk.com any longer.

Actually I was referring to the *registered insider* "movie reviewer" David V. in my post above.

I stopped reading the particular movie reviewer you’re describing when he came up with the most innovative reasons and defenses for his colleague who rated Apocalypto as …….0
quite some time ago.

To the Insiders:

A French website has recently published the numbers of standalone units for BD and HD DVD (excluding the PS3 and the MS add-on) in the main european markets since inception through June.

The least one can say is that Europe has *a lot* of catch-up to do. Thank goodness for the PS3.

Many new standalone players have been announced at IFA, and most of them have European release dates. But I'd like to know if you have agreed upon specific plans and local initiatives in order to *dramatically increase* the CE unit sales.

Are the spotlights still on the PS3 in order to grow market share, or can we expect initiatives and marketing pushes with vendors and movie publishers in the coming months?

...and possibly some efforts on pricing?

Thank you

PentonMan, Paid, et al...

Have you heard anything through your various contacts as to whether or not Criterion is going to jump into the High-Def fray anytime soon or are they just going to sit this one out? I'd give my firstborn for a Criterion Collection treatment of a Kurosawa film on Blu-Ray!

BTW Paid, thanks for the info on Superbad!

Criterion will not enter until next year sometime. They know their customer base is pretty split right now, and I don't think they can afford dual format.

Kurosawa on Criterion will likely require Japanese releases first unfortunately. I pray to be wrong
