while i certainly hope my PS3 can be BD-live capable, doesn't that require 1 GB of memory, which is 512MB more than the PS3 has?

sorry if that question seems a bit dim. i suppose i could do the digging for myself.

It needs 1GB of persistant memory I believe (ie, flash or hard drive space). So leave 1GB free on your hard disk!

I ordered my PS3 today... happy happy.

frank, what BD-live requires is not "1GB memory size", but "1GB storage size".
So far, all PS3s have over 20GB storage size.

Paidgeek,

Any timing on Men in Black, The Mask of Zorro, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, or Hudson Hawk?

Insiders,

Just curious what your take is on all the POTC talk today. I'm surprised I haven't seen it mentioned yet anywhere on this site. Personally, I've seen both Pirates movies on blu-ray and did not notice any such issues. They were 2 of the best movies I've seen to date as far as PQ/AQ. Once again, I regret visiting AVS. One poster went so far as to say he'd rather have POTC on DVD because of this situation. On a totally unrelated note, when the hell did everyone in the world go completely nuts?

Hi, im pretty new to this forum, and I was wondering if you guys could answer this question. How long does it take to master something to hd for blu ray from start to getting on a disc? Do they scan each frame of film? Generally whats the biggest hold up of getting a title to blu ray? Last question, how many discs can be done by one studio, do they have multiple teams make the blu ray versions, like is sony working on multiple bds, or is it in order, same team keeps cranking them out? Thanks guys-love this thread.

Believe me, I'm not worried. It's just the latest lame attempt to spread FUD to those dumb enough to buy into that kind of garbage.

On a more positive note, any insider dare to comment on the rumor about Universal going neutral at CES? Care to drop any subtle hints, Penton-Man?

sweet!

for the price, the PS3 is truly one nice piece of hardware. best $500 I've spent in a long time (and I've yet to use it for playing games, which i fully intend to do).

thanks for the info. here's hoping it can be upgraded via firmware to the advanced profiles.

Default Almost Famous?

paidgeek,

Is Almost Famous on the schedule somewhere? It looks like it is Columbia/Dreamworks - not sure exactly how the distribution rights work.

It is a beautiful film on DVD and the soundtrack is great - would be amazing in Blu-ray I think...

paidgeek/Insiders,
Is The Goonies on the schedule anywhere? The 25th anniversary is 2010 but this is my all time favorite movie. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps it would be best to make another thread to ask about what movies are in the pipeline for BD?

I see a lot of these questions popping up and although its always nice to know, Im more interested in what these guys know about the ongoing "battle" between the formats.

paid,

With the BoG BD version purportedly showing a 45Mbps peak in a few screenshots, would it be possible for the person who did the encode for this disk to comment on the parameters of this encode?

I am particularly interested in things such as what quantization(s) was picked, maximum frame bitcount, accuracy of encoded frames against the original, how often the deblocking filter kicks in, etc.

Since this disk is in extremely short supply, perhaps the people who spent all that time on the disk could be asked to make a few comments on their experience. Since they're not going to work on paramount titles for a while, this might be the best time to try to get them to give us some of their valuable time.

Such insights into the disk authoring/encoding would be invaluable to all.

TIA.

ps. I appreciate that you've always refrained from commenting on the internals of your competition's topics, that level of professionalism is rare these days in internet forums.

Oops another day, another rule change over at AVMS. It’s just a comedy of errors over there.

Translation……………….
AVMS mods to HD DVD “insiders”………….
Yesterday, we as mods said that Amir and other HD DVD “insiders” can’t talk at all about the competition,……………….well, Amir and HD DVD insiders, we as AVMS mods do love you so ………..so feel free now to be able to talk about Blu-ray…..you guys just can’t “disparage or bash the opposing format in any way”.

But, guess who decides what fits the criteria of “disparage or bash” ………………the AVMS mods of course.

Commentary
The whole thing is ridiculous. Why all of a sudden was the initial rule “unworkable” ?

From Day One that I brought paidgeek onto AVMS (in hindsight, it was foolish but I was naïve and believed that AVMS was a *neutral* forum) anyway, from the first day paidgeek arrived on AVMS, he never or rarely ever spoke about HD DVD. Is it really so “unworkable” to have the other side start doing it now ?

But, like WickyWoo said above, what else would Amir have to talk about ?

Neo, you mean like the A-man………..
1. Promoting the theory that BD50 was science fiction from the git-go and allowing it to propagate undeterred throughout AVMS, because at the time of the statement, it really couldn’t be decisively disproved. -Proven False.

2. Stating that Sony compressionists had a maximum of 48 hr. allowable to do encodes – False.

3. Endorsing the theory (after originally floated by amillians) that Project Hydra was some sort of viral marketing technique by anonymous internet posters working for the BDA. -False.

4. Stating that Paramount sent all their Blu-ray titles to Sony (and only Sony) to do their encodes in the past. -False.

Not only does he “comment on the internals of his competition's topics”, he outright lies about them or intentionally misleads uninformed readers that are not in the business.

Hey Penton,

How close does your life in Hollywood compare to what goes on in HBO's Entourage?

Penton, given what Amir is doing, what is the possibility in your opinion that Sony can/would/should send at least the nasty lawyer letter over to MS? Cause what Amir is doing has to be actionable at this point.

I don't understand why separate Blu-Ray & HD DUD insiders threads can't be created over there. Wouldn't that solve most of the BS that goes on at AVS?

Once they did that they could then maybe create a smackdown thread similar to the one at High-Def Digest for all the crazed fanboys.

Check the AVMS archives, it's all there. Sorry, I don't have the time or inclination to provide links but, longtime readers of AVMS know what I say is true.

It just amazes me that somebody like the A-man can get away with constantly telling untruths in the past and people continue to believe whatever his current FUD is.
