So Fox has "delayed" their blockbuster day-and-date (Silver Surfer), apparently due to "Blu-ray manufacturing problems". Not only that, they say it applies to "all Blu-ray products".
Can anyone tell us right now, or badger Fox into saying something right now, whether they're just going to drop all their titles? This shit was old back in April, it's not any better now. Last edited by JBlacklow; 09-25-2007 at 08:12 PM. |

Wow, I originally called BS on all the production rate issues that the HD DVD boys were flinging around, but this doesn't give a lot of confidence. Is this really a problem? And why is Fox the one that seems to have the most problems with it?

Hi Kris, As I recall, the bit depth question was about Dolby THD and that is recorded as 24 bit. |

Question to Paidgeek:
While I understand Sony might have issues with NTFS support on the PS3, I just tried to format a USB disk as ext2 (linux) hoping that would be supported, since linux can be installed on the PS3. Could you please ask those in a position for ext2 (or ext3) support on PS3? Thanks |

SPE does not have the rights to Underworld 2003 in the UK. I'm not sure who is distributing, but they are apparently sourcing the authoring and encode work elsewhere... |

Question about that paidgeek.. any particular reason doing so would be cheaper than simply either obtaining rights to, or contributing $$$ towards the encode Sony did?
The only reason I can come up with is if the Sony encode is BD50 and they wanted theirs to fit on a BD25? |

You would not be able to put a Blu-ray logo on the product and eventually you would have to answer for the IP you are using that does not originate from your company. Getting under a format license provides the major benefit of a consolidated royalty pool. |

By the time another distributor finds the right person to ask about an arrangment to reuse an encode, they can do the whole thing over by themselves. And as you say, they can be sure the specifications are what they want... |

At the moment it seems as if the format war is growing stagnant. There's been no MAJOR earthshaking news in a while from either side, there has to be something in the works?

paidgeek, barring any censorship issues, would it not be a good idea to e-mail foreign distributors of the current encode work SPHE is doing for a pending or future BD release just so that they don't have to spend time doing an encode themselves or waste time finding out the right person to contact SPHE about reusing an encode? That way if there are titles they own and want to replicate on BD, they can just contact BD and iron out the details. fuad Last edited by WriteSimply; 09-26-2007 at 11:22 AM.
