Paidgeek,

I know this isn't in your field, but I was hoping you would be able to pass this onto someone in the PS3 dept. I would like to see a feature added to PS3. It should be possible to program the PS3 to display closed captioning. You see, many HDTV displays are unable to receive analog closed captioning signals. This is why I'm asking for a firmware update to add such a feature where it can be turned on within the PS3. Especially when no projectors that I know of has Closed Captioning decoders.

I hope that's possible... thanks.

Won't be any funnier, maybe, but since I don't buy regular DVD (and never picked up any of the sets previously), I'd love to give SPHE some of my money to get Seinfeld on Blu-ray.

Question to Paidgeek:

For BD-J based titles, some of the PS3 controller buttons don't seem to work (most notably, the left/right arrows as well as the left stick, and the "X" button). There are other buttons that have the equivalent functionality (the L2 and R2 buttons for left/right, and the "start" button for the "X") but as I'm one of the few people who like to use the PS3 remote (not the Blu-ray remote) and control the movie like a game, the left stick and "X" are where my fingers first go.

Is it possible to have these buttons activated as well? Or is there some restriction in BD-J or its authoring tools that only work with the "standard" buttons?

thanks
gandalf

gandalf - which titles are you referring to specifically?

The last one was Surf's Up. But I believe any title with a BD-J control (i.e., something fancier than the plain "<<x10" type displays when fast forwarding/backtracking) work the same.

Actually, maybe I shouldn't say the same. Lionsgate's Dr. Strange has something called Blu-line for which I couldn't find most of the buttons. It is mostly controlled through colored buttons which are only accessible through the triangle menu of the PS3. This one was really hard to use.

thanks

I guess I'm not quite sure what you mean. The buttons work fine in say, POTC. I don't have Surf's Up, or I'd have tested that.

It's quite possible that not all BD-J titles work the same. It was only recently that I started correlating the missing buttons with BD-J.

I don't remember about POTC, it's been a while since I've seen it on Netflix. It's on its way here now (bought it on Amazon last week) so I'll report after trying it again. I checked a few that I have that I think it might have BD-J, the only ones I could find were FF2 and Memoirs of the Geisha. FF2 doesn't have fancy graphics when fast forwarding/rewinding, but all of them have a little animation right after the disc loads. (I believe this is BD-J testing itself to make sure it runs.) The arrow and "X" buttons don't work on either.

enjoy

Yeah same in Spiderman, damn annoying...press R2 to fast forward and then you have to press start to play the movie again.....i don't know why but im always going for the x button!

INSIDERS

I've tried calling SCEA's customer service to ask about getting DTS-MA through a firmware upgrade.

I just have to say, it's pretty friggin' ridiculous that they don't have a single thing to say about it, not a clue, not a sausage, bugger all.

Can someone PLEASE kick some ass and get this update rolling. Do you know how many early adopters will jump into Blu-ray and pick up a 40GB PS3 if it supports DTS-MA?

Rock and roll people, rock and roll.

i was wondering why that was happening when I watched a couple movies. I know one was POTC, and the other was I think...We Are Marshall? Maybe it was From Hell, I can't remember I've been watching so much Blu lately.

More than that. The area is burning down.

So is the CA border region near Tecate. I know people who work there and folks had to be evacuated *thru Mexico* because roads were cut off.

I drive a big rig, and the "Devil Winds" as the news calls it, started around 3am last night, and i was doing a job till 11am last night since midnight. The winds were OUT OF CONTROL!!! Felt like my rig was gonna flip on its side many times, they say it hit over 70mph winds at some point, i can attest to that!
