I watched Part 3 last night. What I look for in any high def release is the facial close-ups, and the close-ups in this release look truly superb. I plan to watch the whole thing again now, probably before watching any of my other unwatched purchases. Keaton is really outstanding in this, along with a number of the other cast members.

Great to hear Sony or BDA helping out the smaller studios. In my book this is a way to win the studios over, thanks for the hard work.

Wow TrueHD in spanish too??? I might have to import this one just so my parents can enjoy once they visit, on spanish and HD yay. I hope is true.

P.S. Thanks to the BDA for the BOGO, great tactic.

Yes! I knew something rang a bell when I was thinking about this.
I do remember that MASH issue, and the laughter-free release

* And Paidgeek, I know you're not biting on my BD release date question (even a year would do, LOL!!) but don't worry you're not losing a sale; I'll still buy the DVD complete series boxset, I just sold my Season 1-8 sets and I can't be doing without my Seinfeld now, can I?!????

For Anyone:

I’m curious if someone can tell me where Image Entertainment stands right now so far as blu-ray is concerned. This Spring in Arstechnica they sighted mastering cost per title as being prohibitively high for them to enter the arena. This Summer our own news shows they are at least involved with some projects. So it’s fall and I’m wondering if anything has changed in their stance. I’m primarily interested in the library of properties they acquired from HVE when they purchased that company. Thanks.

Blue Thunder

It seems to me that if Sony Pictures wants to enhance the position of BD, they would begin to release more of their popular content on to the format.
Several of these will be released in 2008.

May I ask why you don't want to buy your local version? Some titles are being released into your market before, or at the same time as the US market.

Sometimes the US version may have a better audio, example Pans has a better audio track than the version being released in Europe. For some reason Enterainment in video which releases New Lines films in the UK/Ireland have mediocre versions released.

Of course they STILL ARE a member of the BDA, but what will they be the day after their current contract expires?

Please forgive my persistence... I'm not trying to advocate chaos, I'm just seeking something more concrete to alleviate this bubbling fear within the pit of my stomach.
All indications on our side are that they are going to continue to support Blu-ray.

Are there any worries, or is anything being done to combat Walmart stocking a sub-$200 HD-DVD player? I'm assuming since it's an old model that Walmart will just sell out the remaning stock and be done with it, but still, that could increase HD numbers significantly to the Wally World crowd.

This is corrrect. I think all 6 versions will have 3 lossless tracks.

Thumbs up Positive Reactions to "2001"

Apparently the general buying public on Amazon likes the BD version of 2001.

Particular mention is made of the sound.

You guys at SPHE should tell the folks at Warner and Microsoft how that is done - seamless branching with 3 lossless tracks.

paidgeek, for SPHE titles outside of the US - ie South East Asia or even Europe - who does the encode? More importantly, are the masters scrutinized as intensely as they are as the US titles?

And some titles are never (or takes more than 5 year) released in my market. Region coding might be good for studios then they split up market with local distributors and to ensure that people go to the theater before buying the movie but it does not help the customers and I think it only lowers the sales.

Region coding stops the free market. With Internet the market is the World. Why don't Sony (and others) makes more World-releases of their discs, especially their catalogue titles? I only know of one Blu-ray title aimed to the the whole world and it is Replacement Killers. Would love to see more titles with lots of sub-titles. I'm not a fan of dub so even if the titles included many soundtracks, the original soundtrack is enough.

You also have large minority groups in both USA and Europe that does not read the local language and don't understand English. My fiancé is one example and I like that Sony has Thai on some of their discs but I want more.

Why don't the studios include more subtitles (especially on catalogue titles that have them from the DVD-versions) on the movies?

I would also like studios to stop using region coding but Sony is not worst here. I have personally solved it by buying two PS3:s but it's not the best solution.

The below was posted on a different gaming news site. Will we see Sony responding to this issue in the future? If not what is the reason? Why has there been no comment by Sony on this subject at all? Should not all HDTV owners see all PS3 HD Blu-Ray games in HD? Currently they don't. Why is this been allowed to go on for 1 year with no official comment?

" That is correct. One of the most noticeable ones was just a few weeks ago, I had put a blog entry up on the US PlayStation blog, and I got a bunch of responses asking me about the resolutions we support. Up until that day, we were only supporting 720p and it never really crossed our minds to support anything else. In the US, we have this issue where a lot of early adopters with HDTVs have TVs that only support 1080i. So if you have a TV that supports 1080i and the game only supports 720p, the PS3 will default to 480p, which isn't even high-def and is not the way Uncharted should be experienced. So they bought that to my attention--I mean, it was kind of embarrassing that we didn't know that before--and literally within the hour we had 1080i support up to take care of all those people. "

Hey juanleche John Milk in spanish aasdlkfjdf oiuroweir uoiuoiu freaking later. I thought this was fix a couple of firmwares ago. Is been and issue since the begining. From what i understand check your setting on the most current FW, i think they made it so 720P games get upcoverted to 1080i just like DVD's.

Nope, that firmware allowed the upscaling of all other media besides PS3 games. One can upscale a PS1 or PS2 game to display in 1080, but a PS3 game like Motorstorm, Resistance or Heavenly Sword all drop down to 480p on HDTVs that only accept 1080 and not 720. This has not been fixed yet via firmware, nor has it been officialy acknowledged by Sony. To date this is the only HD output device that does not scale all media to the desired HD resolution (in the way a set top cable box can upscale a 720p signal to 1080)
