I guess at as a BD supporter since the beginning. My question is:

WT?

Is supporting WB our response to transformers and an ending to this bucking war?

Ive been here from the beginning, and Ive grown long and tired of waiting for BD reactions.

I say lets nail the mothers to the WALL.

BDA needs to HAMMER some racking nails in the coffin.

I mean lets face it, most know BD is the superior format, so why the rack are we waiting.

Im set to buy an A3 during Xmas, but Id rather not.

Read about 10 pages on this thread in what's supposed to be an INSIDER thread for queries and clarifications only, only to be bombarded with firesale Toshiba players and WB fud.

---------

paidgeek, after reading that you liked the idea of presenting the Sony Bravia ads on BD, why not make it simpler? Create a BD (single layer?) where all of your Bravia ads and even the PS3 ads are in one BD and end each of them with "presented to you on Blu-ray." That way the stores can have something to play.

But not only that, have that BD something that anybody around the world can order to playback on their own setups. I personally would pay US$10 to get such a compilation of HD ads because they look good and they are very inventive.

Also, how about proposing to other members of the CEs for their own HDTV ads to put in one disc? Then that disc can come from the BDA, instead of just Sony.

For those interested, Sony Europe now has four colorful Bravia ads: The ball, Paint, Play-Doh and the new one is Egypt.

Hi everyone! Sorry to be so brief, but I'm posting this from my blackberry as I await my red-eye from LAX to depart. We've had horrible problems with internet access for the last few days, but please allow me to confirm a few things:

Panny showed us their 1.1 dmp-bd30 today. It will street november 19th at $499

Fox has some amazing things in the pipeline for the rest of the year as well as 2008. PiP is a reality now and a certain Danny Boyle film looks amazing!

A properly compressed 1080p BD is definitely transparent to a 2k master.

More soon!

Paidgeek or any insider,

Does anyone know if the 1.0 players will get reduced in price to thwart the $200 (and rumored $100 on black friday) HD-DVD players? Especially now that Panasonic has announced its 1.1 player and plans to release it relatively soon.

Thanks.

kjack,

When discussing royalties, I have been told that on HD DVD "they are practically giving away the licenses to make the hardware. They want the royalties on the discs. That's where the 8 billion comes from."

Can you comment?

Default Question for kjack

Keith,

My apologies if this has been anwered before ...

Can we expect players in the near future that will decode advanced codecs such as DTS-HD MA/True HD internally and output them as PCM via HDMI ?

While the newly announced Panasonic is nice, it appears from initial reports that it only sends bitstream via HDMI.

Is this the trend going forward ?

Or do folks like me who have (2) receivers with HDMI 1.1 have reason to hope that we will get internal decoding to PCM from some future players.

But I was under the impression that all players needed to support internal decoding to PCM. It appears that was incorrect.

Thanks

All players need to support PCM, which doesn't require decoding. So the Panasonic will send out PCM through HDMI or analog outputs, just not TrueHD and dts-HD/MA as PCM.

Wouldn't the industry be satisified if the CP could hold of piracy for a few months after each release?

Short tail/long tail?

The question would be whether any strategy can be created that circumvents the protection no matter what it is or becomes?

Deci, your new Avatar is hilarious!

Is this a (not so) subtle message about the BDA no longer "playing nice"? I.e., the "Blu Meanies"?!?!

It is basically the player manufacturer's decision what type of audio support to implement for the optional audio codecs. Some already do TrueHD decoding for example. Only supporting bitstream output for them does defeat the profile 1.1 capabilities though, so I am puzzled...

This reminds me to ask a question of Paidgeek.

With all the power of the PS3 I would imagine there could be some really spectacular capabilities for music visualizations. Are there any more coming with future updates?

Default Sold out?

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before (long thread!) but what is the reasoning behind some major studios only selling their initial stock of a title and not making plans to sell any more?

People are switching to BD every day and some titles (including blockbusters) are already sold out. How are studios and Sony going to convince consumers to buy a BD player if the best titles are disappearing from the shelves maybe never to return?

There should be some way to special order BD releases that have already sold out. Yes, we can buy them used but they will only go up in price.

Huh? The only studio not making any more BDs is Paramount. Do you have any examples?
