WB is quite predictable. They always do what is best for WB.

In this case, they simply felt that due to expediency, it was much easier to “encourage” Chris not to post on AVSM anymore rather than have somebody from the company constantly monitor his posts for their appropriateness as a perceived WB spokesman – WHICH HE NEVER WAS, despite the implication as such made constantly by Amir .

I think to this day the A-man still makes comments like “we lost our Warner Bros. spokesman.”

WB just didn’t want to deal with that nonsense.
If anything, Amir made the situation for cj’s return WORSE by highlighting the situation and encouraging the petition, etc. all the during the time he was advertising his quest of bringing him back.

That whole thing was ludicrous.

Didn’t he pull this same thing on talkstrt ?sp. by constantly referring to him as “Bill” –despite talk’s desire to remain anonymous ?

He's (the A-man that is) all class alright...low class!!!

Anyhoo, keep up the pressure man!!! Maybe that public relations lawyer woman (forgot the name) at Universal will have to start screening Kornblau's email

As you know, I was one who saw your post on AVSM before the "Rueben sandwich" hit it. If what you posted is true (and I'm sure it is ), then all I have to say is that many of the people who read A-man's "game" who are in the industry (but know the real deal) must have had a great laugh and in the process lost all respect for A-man. I maintain that outside of a few hundred people who are his loyal following @ AVSM that he has probably done more damage to HD DVD from a PR standpoint than anything.

paid, I see Paprika's being released by Columbia Tristar in June in France with English subtitles - do you know if that's going to be region coded?

http://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f150214_paprika_blu-ray.html

Not sure you'd have any contacts over in Europe, but I figured I might as well ask.

Home Theater Cruise - HD Optical Disc presentations:

The Migration To HD Optical Disc: HD DVD & Blu-ray Disc Performance (HD DVD Promotions Group, Blu-ray Disc Association): 1:00 each = 2:00 hours

(Microsoft’s Kevin Collins will make a presentation on HD DVD interactivity for the HD DVD Promotions Group.) (Don Eklund, Senior Vice President Advanced Technologies, Sony Pictures and Andy Parsons, Senior Vice President New Media/Blu-ray, will make the presentation for the Blu-ray Disc Association.) Each format camp will do a 30-minute presentation followed by a panel discussion for 40 minutes with Don Eklund, Andy Parsons, Kevin Collins, Mirosoft’s Amir Majidimehr, Dolby’s Graig Eggers, DTS’ Brian Towne, THX’s Rick Dean, and Joe Kane. At the end of the discussion, 20 minutes will be scheduled for questions from the audience.

Uh...Amir, you said that BD50GB discs would never be a reality, yet within 4 months of the format's inception I had a movie on a BD50GB disc.

Uh...Kevin Collins - you said earlier in January that the Amazon Wars site was a good means to judge jhow the format war is going in your interview with Home Theater Forum. Do you still feel the same way?

LOL. I bet he sings a different tune now.

We now all know that the only true means to judge how things are going is DVD Empire is at the beginning of the week. All all stats and measurements are bogus.

AVMS has become a joke for the most part. A shame really, because there are some good people there with a lot of knowledge to impart.

Penton-Man, first, thanks for all the info up to this point. Now, a question: given that some studios (Fox/Disney more than others) lack of production recently for whatever reason (BD-J/BD+/Piracy/Ect), if BD and HD DVD continues to be a niche market, will we see studio support continue to be shaky? I want to see Blu-Ray succeed, but as someone who fields a lot of questions from "J6P" friends, it wouldn't matter if the player was $100, without titles, they aren't going to make the jump.

To the insiders particularly the studio insiders:

What could be the cost benefit of lowering the price of BDs to DVD levels right now? Would that take too much out of the budget? Would it put too much strain on the replicators?

*puts three bucks in*

I’m not exactly sure what you mean, so I’ll give you 2 answers.

1. If by “shaky” you mean tenuous commitment to Blu-ray by studios?

Well I don’t think that studio support is really “shaky” by any of the majors for that matter (lol, other than one, that is). We here on the forums (any forum) tend to see things through filtered impatient lenses because we read about this stuff on a day to day basis.

Whether videophiles like it or not, these high-def optical disc formats (whether Blu-ray or red boxed discs for that matter) are still considered to be in their infancy by the people in the trenches. Early adopters want to see quick success and immediate gratification because they are tired of the format war and they are dying to see their personal favorite titles in high definition to validate their purchase of their high-def player of choice……and because they are always searching for the best available picture and sound for their faves – as quickly as possible.

Different studios have different agendas, concerns etc. as to how Blu-ray fits into their business plans which some people comprehend as “shakiness” but it is really just the evolution of a new format playing itself out.

Digital cinema theatrical presentation is somewhat similar. All the majors want DCP’s to go to your local Cineplex, it just will take time for it to become widespread throughout the marketplace…..probably a long time but, it will happen in the end. The slowness of the implementation should not be construed by one studio or another as being “shaky”-- just normal evolution of a new process.

2. If by “shaky” you mean the paucity of your favorite titles being produced on Blu-ray or HD DVD in what you consider a *timely* fashion………..then -

Face it, these people are all in it to make money. And as far as I’m concerned there is nothing wrong with that, as long as they are ethical about it.
These entities are not charitable causes, they are businesses. The marketing gurus from each entity have formulas based upon how much of the population owns Blu-ray players, advertising costs, etc. etc. that decide for them how to best utilize the studios assets.
(And there is oversight and benchmarks to be achieved, and if unsuccessful, nobody is irreplaceable).

As individual early adopter consumers, we just have to hope that the bones they throw out to us this early in the game just happen to be our personal favorites so we make out like bandits with our purchases.

And speaking of making out…… Think of this analogy, at least from the girl’s point of view – because I’ve come to believe they are without a doubt the stronger sex.
When you were in high school or college (if you were a swordsman) how long did you stay with the girlfriend that gave up all her assets on the first date in contrast to that girl that only let you get to one base at a time, every fifth date or so. I’ll bet you wined and dined or even married the later compared to the former.

Penton-Man: Do you know what's up with Disney and FOX? I saw a claim somewhere that they are pulling back catalog titles because they aren't selling so well, is this true or is it the AACS crap? Replication problems?

Oh boy, I cannot BELIEVE you went THERE. But since you did, this is why I recommend to all the youngsters out there to have more than one girlfriend until you find the right one and decide to get married. (Thank god my wife doesn't know I post here ).

Anyway, P-man, I echo the sentiments...what is going on with Fox (less so with Disney, but Disney really doesn't have much scheduled anymore after Pirates)?

New line thats going to replace the VW50 and VW100 maybe?
I would also appreciate if you could find out how the development in the SXRD panels for projectors is going, could we expect to see high native contrast around 15-20k:1 as an answer to JVC's killer LCOS panels this year?

Again, I know this isn't your area but I hope you have som answers anyway
I don't want to repeat myself, but I just want to add that the cat is out of the bag There is some info about VW60+pics on avsforum.
So if you paidgeek or anyone else could tell us anything about VW60 and VW200(Diamond?) I would be a happy man
Sorry for OT.

Remember when Cjplay got banned from posting for a few weeks or so last summer? If you knew who had gotten Cjplay in trouble at that time I doubt it would surprise you at all that Amir would think that he could impact the situation with Cjplay recently.

The "A" man has caused more damage to HD DVD than anyone/anything else, bar none, and BTW; AVS use to be a great site (maybe the best) before all this started, it's almost worthless these days, and that is SAD no matter how you cut it.
