Have fun. When you get some time, could you give us your take on how much extra licensing fees would be for both formats for a combo player in a few years compared to a single format player (either HD DVD or Blu-ray). And then how much extra consumers would have to pay for players if this becomes a stalemate and combo players are pretty much all that are available in 2010 and beyond, vs if one format (like Blu-ray) wins and players just have the costs of that format.

I hope my question makes sense. I'm basically wondering how much needing to build and pay for support for both formats might affect how low player prices can get in the long run if things settle out with both formats sharing the market with combo players, as some people seem to desire.

Also, are the license fees for HD DVD players much different than for Blu-ray players?

Thanks,
Darin

"Optimized For Blu-ray Disc" is fine by me too.

The purpose of my idea is the following :

- from one side to provide a service to consumers. The failure to get the logo means that the disc isn't an optimized port, and therefore that all the necessary efforts haven't been made to ensure an optimal viewing and listening experience.

- and above all, to put the studios in front of their responsibilities. It's both economically unsound and ethically unfair to put all the best efforts behind the platform with a 30% market share, and then to leave the Blu-ray customers with the leftovers. If this is their policy, then it's their duty to disclose the titles that are dumb ports without any optimization.

Hopefully this idea will be rendered useless when the format war is over. But in the meantime, I feel that it could become a solution to put pressure on the studios to put more efforts in their releases.

Keith,

Would that pitch be something that those of us that do not work in the field, but have some related experience, could read to get a better understanding of what all goes into making a player? If so, it would be great if you could post it (and the speaker notes) somewhere.

Bummer about that suit thing...

Thanks,
Ken

So do you expect to see BD players do good growth from the chinese market.
As a HD-DVD insider as well have you seen many inquires for HD-DVD and if so are you allowed to give us a lose percentage figure between HD-DVD and blu ray interest.

Not asking much honest

Paidgeek - I'd like to say big thank you for the French Paprika release. I'm very impressed by the amount of content included on the disc. I had never expected the amount of extras and language tracks it got. I posted some more detailed thoughts about it over at http://www.animeonblu-ray.com/forum/...php?tid/22056/

I wish I was more of a writer, but this will have to do ^^;.

Keith, can you tell us which players on the market currently have the capability with their HDMI 1.3 port to output the lossless audio codecs in their bitstream form?

If anyone's going, please ask MS about the ridiculous failure rate of the 360.

Exactly, we all must keep an open mind, there are indeed some venues where one should have no reservation about approaching Micro$oft representatives for more elaboration concerning their assets………….

It's pretty high level stuff. Just showing how taking our chip, adding DRAM, flash, a BD drive and case gets you a player. Showing pics of the inside of several players to show how simple they are to make.

Speaker notes? I make the stuff up as I go along... That way it can be tailored to the audience reaction real-time.

So at SinoCES, we had an HDTV, reference design board, and BD disc that have never been used together before. And it worked like a champ, after giving me some more gray hairs.

HDTV is Chinese brand, LCD 1080p. BD drive is out of Taiwan. I figured using local solutions wherever possible would make bigger impression.

What really impressed me being able to play the demo disc without any problems. Didn't get it until today at the show.

Can't wait to see the 100" LCD HDTV turned on...

Question about BD+:

Paidgeek stated a week ago (or so) that a BD title using BD+ would be coming to market very shortly. Does anyone have any information on this: most germane would be:

1. what studio.
2. what title.
3. what release date.

Naturally we're all curious how this will affect FOX/MGM.

Or was the "in the next few weeks" regarding the beginning of disc production (sounded from the posts earlier like it meant actual release)?

thanks!

dave

That is very impressive. It's almost consumer ready plug n' play for a reference design. Incredible.

But Amir and Co told us that this doesn't really happen! Why would you make something like this up?

But Microsoft and HD DVD supporters keep on telling me China is all about HD DVD! You confuse and frighten me!

In all seriousness, though, good work.

very interesting kjack.

I was also interested to see the B-man say that there are no consumer level tools that make BD/HD DVD compliant VC-1.

There he was promoting that idea just a week ago in the Adobe thread.
