Hmm that does sound appealing. A TV of that quality today would probably cost at least $5k new. The 3 hour drive will surely eat up one of your days You'll probably want to get a lot of large moving blankets (no original box or foam I assume) and big truck flatbed or a walk-in type contractor's van to bring something like that home.

I'd give them a ring and have a little chat so you can get a feel for what they're like. Find out why they're selling and how they acquired the TV, are they the original owner?, are there any known issues etc. Take a usb stick with test patterns or the S&M benchmark disc to go check it out in person and maybe close the deal.

Thanks for your helpful post.

He bought it new in 2019. He is done with 3D and is more into gaming, so he wants a set with better input lag and 2.1 for VRR. He also wants to move up to an 85". This was posted on AVS forum. I've beem PMing with him. He seems cool.

I asked about specifics of the 3D BDs; he checked into it and said he had more than he realized: 29-30. He's since removed those from the posting, saying he could get $200+ for them on ebay, but told me since I responded to the original post, he'd honor that and give me them.

He posted 10 pics of different types and they look spectacular. He said I could also check it out when I get there before the sale is finalized. Good idea about test patterns on a USB stick. But I think the TVs in good shape. AVS owners tend to take good care of their stuff.

Good idea about the moving blankets. He mentioned something similar, just regular blankets and pillows. Also mentioned bubble wrap.

I really don't need this; I just got a Sony XBR 65 A80CJ in December that I love and don't know what I'll do with- seems too good for a bedroom TV. But I've always been interested in 3D; just didn't want to pay the price of admission for a good 3D set when they were available. But this is reportedly the best 3D set ever and comes with a pair of glasses and a bunch of movies. Too good to turn down. Concerned about the long drive, but I'll just be extra careful.

Now, I just need to work it out with my buddy to use his truck. Where's a good place to get moving blankets?

I wouldn't call it "the best 3D set ever". Though the 3D is very nice indeed, I just think passive 3D on those LG OLEDs is better. But it certainly is one of the best 4K/HDR TVs ever made – and probably the best 4K/HDR LCD ever.

It's been a while since there's been a post on this thread but my Z just had an update. It took 15 minutes to load with several off and on cycles. Nice to see Sony still looking after their flagship of flagships. I didn't look to see what this update entailed.

Hopefully it fixes the issue with atmos on the internal MAX app, it used to work before with HBO MAX app.

Just got another update for the Z. No idea what it is yet but it was a much longer update. Firmware update (dated 9/11/23) to v6.7220.

Any other Z9D owners having issues w/YouTube app? Started today when I go to open the app it starts to load, brings up my choices, then blanks out to the main apps screen where I can pick different apps. It’s happening on both my 65” Z9D’s. I have Comcast’s Xfinity service. All other apps working fine, Disney+, HULU, Prime, etc. Already tried a hard reset, no results.
UPDATE: woke up an hour ago and headed straight for the tv. YouTube app is working perfectly now, no idea what happened. Just happy it’s working again.

Mine still is and it's my primary TV. I do have a JVC NZ8 as my theater source. I have an A90k in a spare bedroom and my wife has an A80J in her woman cave so there's newer tech all over the place yet I just can't seem to let the baby go

I see more of her faults as she ages, but I'm still not sure there's anything else on the market that meets my needs as well as the Zed does. The Bravia 9 looks luvverly but the banding issues are spooking me a little (it seems to be endemic to the latest chipsets, it having crept into Pannysonic's TVs as well) and the borked Dobly is a concern.

It'll be eight (!) years in March since I bought the ZD9

It's time to let her go, there are much better TVs nowadays. I used to have one and she was marvelous for her time. However, she's like a wife that's got fat, time to head to family court.

Something tells me you're single....or will be soon You're right. I kept the Z because it's a beast and it has 3D. Once I got my projector I have 3D covered yet here I am. I'm with Geoff, even with two OLEDs in the house I'm not into them. Something is just....unnatural with them in my eyes.

Amen about OLED....8 years with the Z and it might be a microLED (when affordable) that makes me cut bait.

It's a sad but joyful day as I've finally replaced my 65" Z with the new 65" Sony Bravia 8 II OLED. The Z is going to my bedroom as a streaming only TV. I'm trying to keep this baby around as long as possible so the good news is that it's still going strong. As for the new 8....my goodness but it looks amazing out of the box.

I can't get rid of mine, even though the 3D is not great. I still love the TV. It will have to die for me to get rid of it.

We have the A80J (for my wife/PS5) and the A90K in the guest bedroom but this is the first OLED I'm watching movies on for myself. I'm tired of waiting for any affordable microLED set so I broke down for this QD-OLED.

I can't get rid of mine, either so I'm still using it in our bedroom. However, it was just time to get something with new tech and reasonably priced.

I thought it was just the 65" Z (mine) that had the wonky 3D and the 75" was a lot better as you say.
