A good friend is asking if she should get the 65" Z9D ($4,000 Cdn) or the 65" LG C8 ($3,000 Cdn).
I said to her to get the less expensive one and use the extra $1,000 to spread love with Christmas presents.

The question to members here is:
Was I right in my reply to her to not buy the more expensive Sony Z9D?
...And to spread more love around.

Think before answering; it might be more complicated than what you think.

May want to think about that tone in bold prior to posting it.

The price in Canada is $1k more than here. The Z has the advantage of better image processing and being significantly brighter, the C8 has the advantage with black levels and viewing angles.

As far as whether or not you were right, since you did not provide any reasoning for the recommendation other than the price difference and didn't explain their usage whether tickers, games, and other static images will be a regular occurrence or the light level in the room, I can't assess if your advice was fully thought out.

If it was my main TV where I do a lot of gaming and the room gets very bright, I would have gone for the Z. If it were primarily for movies and TV shows in a light controlled room, I'd get the C8.

I agree 100% w/your comment about tone. However, since there were literally no considerations to factor i.e. money being an issue, primary usage, etc. I gave the simplest answer w/the info that was given. Again, if money was the only thing to consider, then I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Z9D LCD technology likely offers excellent PQ for years of use. OLED's needs to prove itself. Thus prudent to buy a 5 year screen damage protection plan. Which pretty much price equalize the two Displays.

Z9D because of its Magnificient PQ is worth its Every Cent.

I bet our Z9D will give our family 10-15 years of service. Nice bonus is 3D capable.

Sorry if the tone was misinterpreted. There was no negative tone intended.
The prices are indeed different in different countries.

She is no gamer, she is no 3D gal, she just want a nice TV that has the best picture for watching TV and without issues and that would last her many years of trouble-free.

Her viewing habit is varied; news, shows, documentaries, movies, musicals, etc.
She alternates between daytime light and dimmed light nighttime.

Her husband is a sports fan...football, tennis, golf, hockey.
But he is not concerned about picture quality, she is.

Feel free to ask any more question you might have.
Merry Christmas!

Very excited that it was available to purchase again from Best Buy. I thought I missed out.

If the news isn't left on for hours with tickers and whatnot and the daylight isn't too intense, it makes sense to get the C8 for considerably less. It is strange how the prices are basically reversed in Canada since in the states the Z is $2,000 and the C8 is about $2,800.

You can let her know that the Z will get a lot brighter and has better motion handling and image processing and see if that is worth the extra money. The alpha 9 chip in the C8 and above is markedly improved over their other sets from this year and previous years though.

mutelight. And those so inclined.

Tho I could'nt give my award winning/TV ShootOut winning E6 away I would gladly sell it for $800. Just ignore appx 60% its display screen. Only used it appx. a year.

She decided to take my advice and save $1,000 by picking up the top best 4K TV.
Plus she doesn't have to wait as she's available in store...free delivery @ her door this week.
Ready for Christmas with Santa riding his sled and without motion blur behind the sled.

Thank you all, it's a lovely day.

And Sony OLED in comparison (65")
https://m.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/s...65a8f/12405505

* Sony in Canada they want more money; many Canadians living in Igloos think that Sony is the best TV brand and worth paying extra more for the name, the King of TVs.

What helps her too was when the grand kids visit and watch cartoons...wider viewing angle.
And why pay $1,000 more also for the Sony OLED...it makes no sense.

My buddy has the Nick Jr logo burned in on his OLED from his kids watching cartoons.

I replaced my LG E6 with a Sony OLED and it blows it away in image processing and motion handling. There is a reason they cost more but it is up to the consumer if it is worth it to them.

I have owned my LG 65EF9500 OLED for over 3 years, and my 2016 LG E6 OLED for over 2 years. Both remain flawless. The EF9500 has 5000 hours on it. I watch mostly sports on it, and OLED light has been at 100 the last 4500 hours. Absolutely no BI. My E6 has 2500 hours on it. Also no burn in. I couldn't be more happy with my purchases. Although I don't doubt BI occurs, it's a non issue for most people.

The E6 is an old generation TV, no wonder it's permanently burn-in.
The C8 is newer, better, nicer, less money, best blacks, wide angles, quasi 3D screaming beautiful picture, like a cosmic orgasm. Nothing against Sony, they just overcharge too much for their LED and OLED TVs, that's all, like the old bad days.
If they were more competitive (@ least in my neighborhood), I would give them my services and feed their vaults. Competitive, that's all...it is so financially simplicity in itself, making all good common intelligent wise monetary sense in these days and ages.

The less competitive they are the taller the wall they build between their providers.
We encourage the best in all aspects, because movies matter, including animated cartoons, and Disney/Marvel 4K flicks. ...And beautiful docs like Planet Earth II 4K.

If that Z9D would have been the same price as the C8 I would have thought a bit longer before giving a sage advice. And look @ that outrageous price for the 75" Z9D here in Canada, is Sony losing its marbles! Do they think we eat snow to embellish our belly buttons!
https://m.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/s...75z9d/10460913

The Sony A8F had my consideration, but also NOT for $1,000 more, no way Jose.
https://m.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/s...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

And this, what the heck is this!

Now you're talkin'; makes me feel real good on my wise advice. Plus she saves a thousand bucks!

And we're not even talking old generation LG OLED here, but the latest and very best number one...the C8 compared to Sony Z9D.
I love Sony, my home is full of it (old Sony TVs, CD players, SACD players, DVD players, Blu-ray players, 4K BR player, old linear turntable, walkman, headphones, rechargeable batteries, etc., etc., etc.). So I am a big Sony lover, but here when it comes to the very best and for less money I ain't no sucker. No way I'm going to give bad advice to good friends.

So your post is very welcome @ the threshold of 2019.
Warm Christmas cheers, all in the family.

Bob

Amazon USA now has

75 inch Z9F for about $800 more than the 65 inch Z9F. Clicking the Amazon coupon checkbox saved the additional extra $225.

Awesome price.

Buy with Citi Visa extends 2 extra years warranty. So total is 3 years.

Hmmmmm. Maybe because CES 2019 is in a couple weeks.

I live in Canada, me and me friends. Those 75" and 65" model Sony LED 4K TVs are exorbitantly supremely extensively prohibitively expensive. Thank you very much but no thanks, with Christmas cheers.

• 75" ($8,000) - https://m.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/s...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

• 65" ($4,600) - https://m.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/s...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Thiz deal is done; she already purchased it:

Now, just tell her that she made the wrong decision, if you dare.
