I think I'll just wait out the automatic update and not mess with anything. No need to potentially rock the boat if I don't have to.

Maybe this refers to the DV (Dolby Vision) update?

My Z9D's go massively dark in DV mode. It's so bad, I consider DV on Z9D using OPPO assist to be a laugh riot joke. PQ supper duper bad.

But then I've been told I'm not aware that my remote has PQ settings so what do I know.
Now you finally have OLED blacks

I'm reading about all kinds of issues with this latest update (and not just on the Z9D), will definitely hold out until further notice.

From the top of my head, there's talks of compatibilty issues with playback off external HDD, TVs reverting back to its internal speakers instead of the connected audio system, wifi connection dropouts, certain internal apps not working properly anymore.

Granted there are also people who don't seem to have issues at all, but right now there are just too many reports of people who do have them and I'm not willing to take that chance. Besides my own sets, I also have my sister's X900E to take care of, and all she does is stream and use the internal apps.

Not a good sign. Maybe being at the end of the update notification chain isn't so bad after all.

Heh. I don't play stuff from an external drive because the TV's interface is shite, I haven't fired up my AVR in god knows how long, I don't have it connected to the internet at all, and I don't use any internal apps either. Must be why I've had zero problems with it thus far!

I tell you what though, the volume slider is crazy responsive now. Used to be very laggy but now it rockets along. Also noticed a little quirk with the menus, when you select something that has several options e.g. Motionflow then the choices don't 'wrap around' any more, before you could flip through them all and then it just clicks back to the start but now when you reach the 'end' you have to go back the other way to get to previous options. I dunno if that makes any sense but it's hard to describe.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Incidentally I also read about some people having issues with picture settings that do not change accordingly when selecting a certain picture mode.

I don't know, there's just too many reports of varying issues for my liking. I can wait.

There's a ton of "issues" talked about on every firmware version, including stock OEM from 2016.

I wouldn't worry about it.

What a weird thing to change. I thought the Oreo update would only apply to the apps and main menus, not the UI of the important stuff.

I really liked that wrap UI behaviour. Wish it was a standard.

Yeah, but this time it seems to me it's worse. Doesn't really matter, as I'm in no rush or need to update anyway.

Mine got the update notice today, but I'm going to wait.

I was wondering how many people do a factory reset when updating?

For those that do. Do you do it before or after?

Got the update for my X900E but not my Z. No problem with the update as of yet. Everything is working as expected. Definitely not updating the Z until I'm as sure as I can be that it's safe.

I just got update notice for my Z9D. I elected to defer.
DV currently looks good. Will wait for a bunch more testers to see if it’s safe.

I think my library has over 50 DV titles, out of 220 total. Don’t want to have to monkey around if DV gets borked.

Picture is unaffected and I have been running the main Oreo update about a month across 3 different model TVs all with the same identical firmware file. Two of my sets were measured with a Klein K10-A post update to verify it.

I am still plagued by the TVs randomly turning on my pre-pro and AVRs across all three. My A1E and 930E like to cold boot randomly though. I have not seen it happen on the Z9D though.

So in short, my experience of the last month is that they need to still address the refactored CEC code and the cold boots are annoying but outside of annoyances, nothing devastating and DV is the same as pre-update.

I have not seen other reports of cold boots from other owners of any of my three TVs across over four threads, so my suspicion is it may be IP control related.

I finally did a quick calibration run on it too post-update, noticed no changes whatsoever.

No problems with Netflix and/or YT on your X900E? Also do you happen to play files off an external HDD using the internal video app? I've been reading about certain files not playing anymore since the update?

I don't have Netflix but both Amazon Prime and YouTube worked without a glitch. It's my wife's TV so there isn't an external hdd attached. Quicker response vs. prior software but had to reconnect the wifi. Otherwise, there's been no observable issues. I didn't factory reset her TV but might if it's recommended.
