AVS forum member D-nice said something along the lines of "it can be disabled", but I have yet to come across anymore information regarding that matter myself.

Like you, I don't care about (unnecessary) additional processing. I like to watch my (physical) media as "clean"/pure as possible without as little "interference" as possible.
I thought I heard somewhere that changing to the Custom picture mode disables the AI upscaling?

It's funny how long they've been doing some of this stuff, like they introduced "Digital Reality Creation" in 1997!

1997 was the year I purchased my first home. 1st major purchase for my my digs? A Sony model KV35V65 if I remember correctly. Gorgeous 35” picture tube! Thing weighed a ton. Took 3 men to pick up a safely move around.

It was probably a 36, not 35. I don't recall Sony having a 35 inch tube in the '90s - it went 27, a "special edition" 29, 32, 36.

Was it a WEGA/Trinitron set? I had a 36" one but I can't remember the model number. Something like 950. I had an old Pioneer Elite 55" rear projection set that probably weighed less

Finally nabbed a calibrated 65ZD9 with 2 years warranty left for £875. This will be my bedroom TV possibly coupled with 7.1.4 soundbar.

77" OLED and separates will be in the living room.

I bought both the 34XBR910 and its upgrade the 34XBR960 which was probably the finest consumer CRT ever. Blu-rays looked absolutely incredible on it. Damn thing weighed 200 pounds though. But that was outweighed (figuratively) by the picture which was 1400 scan lines (interlaced) horizontally and deeeeeeep blacks. Until I got my Z9D I haven't been totally satisfied by an LCD in comparison.

Yes my 35” Sony was my prize possession in my home. I was one of the first people I knew that made the switch to DvD’s and recall many of my visitors’ jaws dropping when I would demo something for them. The upgrade in PQ from VHS to DvD was significant. Good times.

I wouldn’t know its true value as I haven’t seen that XR processor in action with lower rez content as displayed on their 2021 8K TVs, but I can tell you that all AI processing is not marketing bollox as this implementation of AI is the real deal - http://curf.clemson.edu/technology/b...r-ai-solution/

it sure would be shame if an experienced longtime engineer of Inoue’s caliber embellished the processor’s value of emulating human cognition thereby prostituting himself to the company by endorsing it as linked on the river otter thread here - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post19096257

Some of each, maybe? I know that you know that Sony’s processing is why we are all here in this thread. I bought a used Trinitron console in the 80’s, and it cemented my appreciation for Sony’s engineering!

Eh, I just don’t get what all that has to do with the subject at hand, as I didn’t say that all AI is bollox, just the usual marketing spiel.

My first TV was a Trinitron, with remote control. It was a color TV, 19" in diagonal. I paid $1,000+ back then...with tax and extra warranty. There was no Z, but there might have been a 9 ... a D? ...Perhaps a C. And there was no cognitive Atificiel Intelligence. ...No Doby Vizion.

Times fly by ...

Anyone have some suggestions for great 3D films to watch on this set?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is near top of the list for me. The colors and brightness just pop, and the 3D is great throughout. One of the few that might even be better than projection...something I never thought I'd say.

The Hobbit films also look splendid.

Last Jedi was unwatchable in 3D on my 65” ZD9. Horrendous crosstalk.
