I will be voting with my wallet by buying the new Panasonic player that outputs checkerboard.

Here is a link that just says "millions" but doesn't offer a specific number of sets: http://hdtvprofessor.com/HDTVAlmanac/?p=1022
Is that worldwide numbers? US? US + Japan + Korea?

Samsung put out a proprietary (read: unsupported) format and you expect Sony to support it?

And how long do you think Panasonic will, especially now that the official 3D standard has been set?

(when I first heard of "checkerboard" I thought it was the name they gave color wheel visual artifacts)

Enjoy the footy, one and all... Condolences to Mandella, I can't believe his party was sullied by some drunk driver...
Brazil v Spain isn't much of a stretch

So I went with Germany v England (spain/argentina get knocked out in the semi's)

Oh, don't get me wrong, this isn't who I -want- to win.

I actually made all the picks before I saw the official rankings, so felt amused that I matched the top pick.

Spain's just been so damn dominant. As I said before, we all win as long as Portugal doesn't.

ps. Go South Africa!

Well, it's not exactly proprietary. It's a Texas Instruments system. Mits is intentionally locking out other brands from their adapter. Any 3D DLP is using the same, regardless of point of origin

Since Sony abandoned rear projection, I have almost bought that 82" Mitsu DLP on a couple different occasions... everytime I'm willing, I am decidedly underwhelmed and hold off to see if it will get cheaper, though it's "3D ready" system was part of the draw. Once I learned it was a doomed format, that became far less of a factor. Just don't really give two brass obols about flat panel form factor.

At one time US Appliance had that set for $1899!!! I haven't seen it under 3 stacks since.

Seeing as this is Friday, even I have a bike(r) video for you: see here.

Note: These people are professionals, do not attempt this at home.

Have a good weekend.

No cheering from the yanks? WTF, nobody really watching?

Congrats - a draw is actually quite an accomplishment.

They were lucky to win. England was the better team but their goalie allowed one of the softest goals I've ever witnessed. I've coached youth soccer for 9 years and it was the type of play I would expect a 10 year old to make, not a professional player.

Sometimes that's all you need.

"A matter of perspective doctorrossi. In the strictest sense they did not win.
They busted them up."

USA played well, England were pushing hard in the second half and almost made it it 2-1 but the US team were good at keeping Rooney covered. I think England were the better team in general but I was dead impressed with USA.

I just hope the stupid mistake from Green doesn't bash his confidence because he's a damn good keeper.

I misspoke...What I meant is a tie is like a win to the US because England was the toughest draw in their bracket. If they win their next game they should advance. My bad.

The US almost made it 2-1 as well. Green made a good save in the second half deflecting Altidore's shot. Well, he and the upright made a good save.

Oh, you're not allowed to play "almost" when I've got Rooney as a scoring leader...

Meanwhile, good for Ghana (killing all hopes of Serbia going through, screwing my pool even further). This might meen that Oz will slip through, or Ghana will continue to be doing well. Bless em'

Let's see how post-Balack Germany fares....
