Keep up the good work. I have two 3D "almost" ready TVs. they are a 61" and 67" DLP Samsung (LED technology) that does checkerboard internally. I am waiting for the Mitsubishi adapter that was announced at CES which will allow my sets to handle all 3D formats. Once that comes out I will than purchase some 3D glasses that are made for DLP TVs.

It still isn't much better than a Photoshop job. Hell, there's a filter that makes photos look painted: instant Star Wars poster!

If it's so easy then let's see your portfolio of hand drawn/painted work.

BTW, there's lots of subtle differences between real hand-drawn or painted artwork versus something a clumsy filter in Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter can generate.

Well, I believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, whether it be related to 2D, 3D…. or anything else for that matter, and some peoples’ posting behavior obviously runs counter to that.

Hopefully, we don’t have an ‘incorrigible’ situation over there.

As an aside, I received a bunch of PMs about SCE’s FREE recent update firmware version (3.3), for owners of the Playstation 3, whom I would assume, 99% of which originally purchased the unit just for 2D viewing, so in essence, 3D capability is, or should be, considered icing on the cake for them, so to speak.

Anyway, I don’t speak regularly with the SCE division, but what I do know is that the recent PS3 update version 3.3 supports 3D gaming and streaming (yes it’s early). Gaming and streaming will typically be 720p, but 3D movies can be either 720p or 1080p and this fully complies with the Blu-ray spec. in other words, when the firmware is made available to play 3D movies, the PS3 will support 1080p.

Not bad for what a first gen player can do Hence why I always loved the argument "finished or completed" spec" (inferior but complete like DVD) versus blu-ray's ever evolving spec's

For you gamers dudes out there, there may be some more info here on this video clip (see “Sony Talks about”)…
http://www.gamerlive.tv/3d-gaming-summit

I haven’t watched the clip yet, so I don’t know what was said and what wasn’t said but, I presume at least it should be a good primer for those members relatively new to the 3D gaming scene and desire to know more.

Penton, thank you much for this info, about which many of us have been v curious ...

To clarify and finally nail this for once and all, when you say 1080p for 3D movies on Blu-ray, you mean the PS3 will deliver "the full 1080p to each eye"?

I.e., more exactly, output the 2205x1920 frame at 24 Hz like the 3D BD standalones?

Thanks for the update on the PS3! The PS3 is probably one of the best investments in electronics that I have made. Sony keeps one coming up with updates for this PS3 that have kept the PS3 current with the latest Blu-ray players plus it has many other features such as wireless and an internet browser. It looks that I will be able to get 3D Blu-ray movies playing at a minimal cost since I have a PS3 hooked up to both Samsung DLPs.

I think the problem with the posts that he's illuminating is that many 3D opponents want it not to be available for anyone. Given that you have the choice to participate in something that's 3D or not to, nobody is harming you. So far, every 3D release in theater has a flat offering in another theater. Additionally, built right into the 3D spec for blu-ray is a requirement that the same disc deliver a 2D presentation.

So yes, railing against an OPTION is seeking to deprive others of their own LIBERTY to do as THEY so CHOOSE.

I've looked at a couple of his posts and can't see where he says he does not want 3D to be available to anyone. Shouldn't people be free to express their opinion about something? Where does he say there should not be an option for 3D? All I see is he expressed his opinion on current 3D, and is now suspended.

The tenor of a lot of the posts I've read has suggested that not only "I don't like 3D and I won't buy it" but "studios/CEs are forcing 3D down our throats and I won't stand for it!" Trying to figure the whys and wherefores of someone's suspensions from a forum is probably not a worthwhile endeavor, as you never will know for sure which was the offending post, or if in fact it's a pattern of behavior that results in an expulsion. I also don't know the "he" involved here, so I don't know if my generalization applies to his in particular.

Suffice to say the 3D/Anti-3D dialog has not been especially rational and has frequently leaned more towards the antagonistic. Of course perception is everything, you may well not perceive what I and others do.

A better technology forum will always be one where people feel free not only to discuss their own ideas, but also that those ideas can be discussed in a cool and collected manner. I left a well regarded forum a few years ago over the antagonism associated with unifying behind the blu-ray format.

CS5 is shipping shortly. I've been trying to convince Adobe to give me a master collection for selling a set number of licenses, but so far they aren't biting.

Over the in PS3 forums here the prevailing information seems to be that the PS3 will output 1920x1080p48 (1080p/24fps x 2, so a 1020p24 stream for each eye) or 720p120 (720p/60fps x 2, 720p60 for each eye).

EDIT: Here, link and an image:

You'd better watch out, there's a notable minority of people here in favor of doing just that when it comes to voice dubs.
