I'll be eyeballing the new XBR 3D sets.

I think if you search my old posts from last Dec., I said that SPORTS would be the primary driver of 3D display adoption.
More to the point of my recommendation to sharkshark, I personally don’t know of one motocross motorcycle mechanic in Orange or L.A. County that is a Toy Story fan, at least at work, anyway.

I would doubt the Italian wrenches in Milan are any different…http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/201...c.html#photo10

P.S.
I shudder to think the looks I would get from some Harley mechanics, if I casually brought up the topic of Toy Story, or for that matter, any animation film in 3D while chewing the fat with them surrounded by the calendars and posters hanging on the walls in their work area.

I think a lot of folks, this writer included, are confused about current 3D which adds depth - rather than having things flying and poking out at you. 3D should add enough depth for benefit, but should not be whiz-bang and throwing things out into the audience.

Unfortunately, not as well-informed as I would like to be as I don’t know where any of these ‘pro’ German or Australian fans are working now (not really safe for work)…
http://coedmagazine.com/2010/06/14/2...-vs-australia/

Nor, for that matter, do I know where any of these loyal fans are right now, either (safe for work)…

Charming links as always...

I'll note at least 50% of those are "gummy bear". I guess you get used to those in Cali, they just seem so... silly.

But I digress.

Instead, I was sent this today:

That’s nuthin. I was sent this link (after my morning postings today) with absolutely no explanation.

I still can’t figure out if it was forwarded to me for the preceding Degree ad, or from a basketball fan jealous of the World Cup, or from a serious heterosexual female Team Italy fan or a vuvuzela hater….
http://www.nbc.com/the-tonight-show/...-2010/1233996/

As an aside, I guess I should mention to those who might be unaware and interested, that there will be a 2010 World Cup 3D highlights Blu-ray available later this year.

What resolution will it be encoded in, and what was the format of the original source footage and which cameras were used? If it could be encoded in the original video format, would the picture quality be better or more accurate? What is the maximum resolution and frame rate of the cameras that were used to shoot it?

Interesting and bold assessment by a Prince about a potential upcoming England/Germany match. I’m not so sure about “rings”.

lol, I won’t forget you and I don’t think that you ever personally learned the meaning and/or significance of the idiom…”Don’t bite the hand that feeds you”.

Let my lack of a complete direct response to you be a real world lesson in that regard.

To those respectful camera aficionados out there who might be interested, the flagship 3D capture rigs for the 2010 World Cup consist these..
http://www.pro.sony.eu/biz/view/Show...egory=HDseries

whereas, the more mobile POV 3D capture rigs have a pair of these…
http://www.pro.sony.eu/biz/view/Show...purposeCameras

A pair of the later will run you about $60k.
The former (HDC-1500s)?...quite a bit more.

For World Cup followers, set your DVR’s as today is a quite significant being the National Holiday commemorating the 1976 Soweto uprising (think people being injured and killed protesting for equality) landing on the same date that South Africa plays Uruguay to help secure a second round qualification…

Switzerland? SWITZERLAND?! WTF?!

Thanks for the links to the cameras, I was actually pretty curious. Have you been watching any of the ESPN stuff?

Rogers has announced that they're doing the semis and finals in 3D up here - not upgrading the Kuro any time soon, but nice to see some content trickle out nonetheless. I'm quite interested in Sony's implementation, as I was distinctly underwhelmed by Samsung's offering.

I've got RSA/URA in a draw... let's see if I can get ONE match correct today.

Dudes!
I haven’t watched Spain vs. Switzerland yet!

Let's at least allow some people time to return home from work and view the matches in the evenings.

Well, if you also strike out with your prediction for South Africa vs. Uruguay, there’s always this…

But he is right in so far as on a good day every one of those teams can beat the other - at least when THEY have a bad day.

I cannot be held responsible that you don't have live coverage on at work the way everybody in this town does. However, given that it is your thread, I will wait an appropriate period of time before complaining bitterly that NONE of my picks came through today.

BITTER.

lol, yeah, all I need now is some enforcement division of the CFTC reading this thread and scrutinizing all my posts for any double meanings related to Insider manipulation…I’ve already got some pencil-neck(s) from Sony Corporate doing that on a daily basis because they don’t have anything else better to do with their time.
