It has PLENTY to do with Comics. Its just a lot more than that these days. I expect the big names like Brian Michael Bendis, Geoff Johns, Ed Brubaker and Grant Morrison to make an appearance.

I hope DC does a better job clarifying what they are actually doing with their continuity. Is it a complete reboot or just an issue renumbering?

As for Marvel, I would love for them to tell us they are going to give it a rest with company wide crossovers for the next couple of years.

On that note, I am off to "feed the machine" (ala Seeing Harry Potter 7.5 and the Hollowed Deathlies!)

I, myself, favor “fine” articles . And I guarantee you that evening at the DCL back in Jan. ’06, people weren’t defending the use of *35mm reduction* elements…on the contrary, they were discussing the benefits of starting out with a large format film (65mm) even with 1958 film stock and of course the benefits of at least 4k down-sampled to HD as opposed to 2k to HD.
Go back and click on the link in my post. It isn't a RAH post. It is a post by someone in the "other" forum, that is so challenged, that they don't know how to open the LOTR box.

What with that, and Steven Spielberg set to appear in person to promote The Adventures of Tin-Tin, Hall H definitely will be where the action is again this year.

The line forms down the street to the left.
Sounds great. I'll be reading the live blog.

Oh, and the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man has been CONFRIMED to be with Captain America. I can't wait! It's a pretty long trailer, so its a safe bet footage will be plentiful.

To add some Blu-ray content, when Sony brings out Lawrence of Arabia eventually, I hope they do some nice packaging and a very reasonable price like was done for Bridge on the River Kwai.
I don't know if that stage was a one shot pony for Basso or if he is the real deal this year.

Give the AVS member a break Ray , he was being sincere and honest. As an analogy, I still occasionally run into bikers who are new to the sport and don’t even know how to change a puntured bicycle tire without problems. Something which you really have to learn how to do (replace or patch)...unless you don't mind walking home.

I admire their passion even if they are at the very beginning of the learning curve. They’ve got a good heart as I suspect is the same for the AVS member which you linked.

Let's take the high road here.

On the last page, I forgot to mention a real-world nuance of that DCL South Pacific presentation back in the early winter of ‘06. The source (though not as optimal as something like a DDR for playback) was the actual D5 tape to be used as a DVD master and was projected vis-à-vis a Christie CP200 (2048 x 1080).

I think that all in attendance were impressed with the result of the work and were looking forward to the eventual streeting of the 20th Century Fox’s South Pacific DVD....at least, the audience members whom I spoke to were of that sentiment.

Further, the tone might be very, very different from that of Superman Returns and, as such, there might be a lot of story value in trying to prevent any associations/comparisons in viewers minds.
I understand what you're saying, but raise one flaw with your position in the first paragraph. Sometimes you don't have a performer with the "performance skills and style more appropriate to the particular subject matter" and there's nothing that can be done about it. It's called a sequel.

I know that ideally the person writing the sequel (at least the one taking the first pass) would try to write to the strengths of the actor at hand, but that doesn't always happen.

In this case, I guess it depends on how much of a reboot it is. Is it a reboot/reorigin film (as I think I heard it is) or is it a continuation of the Reeve legacy with another actor.

Sarcasm to mock the bitrate debates isn't going to change the fact that top-line audio "resolution" will ensure lossless quality to whatever the source.

No worries, somebody deleted my post anyway, and I'll leave debates about getting lossless to lightup on your receiver trumping the quality of the source material to others.

I wish people were more specific.

10 miles of the 405 - between the 10 and the 101.

Not the entire 72 mile 405 freeway!

Wonder if anyone can shine some light on rumors that the new Ultraviolet format will not allow bluray discs to play unless an Internet connection is present? Sounds a little disturbing if true.

specifically -
USA vs Japan

lol, well don’t look at me, as I certainly don’t smell perfume every time someone with a reputation sometimes passes gas. I just pass facts.

Don’t feel badly though, as I think the intervention occurred in order for things not to get out-of-hand and for someone not to have a stroke. Probably for the best.

Well if you’re ‘down in L.A.’ on July 27, then PM me and I’ll get passes for you and a guest to attend a private screening (before its commercial release) of The Smurfs in 3D in the Jimmy Stewart Theater on the lot….where all of us “thugs from Culver City” hang out.

There’s even a reception about one hour prior to the show.

Which brings me to….’tube of the day

P.S.
Dennis, whatever you do, please don’t show up at the reception with a 21 year-old on your arm and embarrass me by telling folks that she’s your ‘niece’.

This makes no sense. The BD-ROM spec governs behavior of Blu-ray Discs in a Blu-ray player. Ultraviolet is an external spec which has no impact on how Blu-ray discs play.

A Blu-ray Disc could be "Ultraviolet-enabled", which basically means there would be a code which lets you unlock the movie from a digital locker (and would presumably require internet support), but this should in no way affect your ability to play a Blu-ray disc on your player.

Penton,

Not sure if you have already talked about this, but I was wondering what your thoughts were on this topic:

http://money.cnn.com/2011/07/08/tech...ract/index.htm

I just came across this, and don't want to read too much into it...but as an avid Netflixer I guess there could be changes in the near future?
