As I guessed: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=211 they're combining the scan of the faded negative with carefully aligned chroma information from the Y sep to reconstruct the colour. Many thanks to RAH for the confirmation: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topi...3#entry4281120

That's got to be a very tough process.

Yes, no wonder it took ages & wasn't ready for the TCM showing. It looks like Universal is serious about this stuff.

The colors surely look better.
Ok, now we are talking. Even in those very small captures.....the sheer amount of detail, the glorious tack sharp focusing comes through in spades. Like other large format movies on Blu-ray that tend to jump off the screen, this is going to impress and will be another "demo-worthy" title. I only hope that the "My Fair Lady" restoration looks this good as well. Release day can't come soon enough.......

Personally I wouldn't waste my first experience with a classic film on an inferior version. You can never get that first time back.

Yeah, definitely a great gif, thanks. Snow White is one of the few classic Disney movies I don't have and that little gif really makes me want it - but I'll probably have to wait for the next "unvaulting" ... ...

Yea, mine copy of Snow White was stolen. I continue to go back and forth on whether to pay some outrageous price for a copy on Amazon or just wait until it comes around again. A great, classic movie and piece of animation to be sure, but not that much......

I'm more of an Aladdin guy myself. Robin Williams as the Genie. Who can possibly not love that?

People who aren't Robin Williams fans - just to name a few million.

Anything with Robert Harris involved and you know this movie is going to look as good as it can get. Looking forward to it!

Just a note: the 4K captures seem to be incorrectly decoded to RGB (limited to 16-235) so they are flatter than they should be.

Converted a few to 1080p and fixed the RGB range issue for a more apples to apples comparison of what you might see on the bluray:

Wow, the improvement is massive, just look at that increase in detail. The old one looks like a blurry, orange mess in comparison. Can't wait for this.

Sweet Llama of the Bahamas! The increase in detail is extraordinary. This will look amazing in HD, never mind UHD. **** waiting for a Criterion version, this will be MINE.
