Would like to retire my Criterion DVD. Hopefully Universal releases a good package with some supplements.

Well, I wouldn't say that it's a stellar work on 1941 and Always.
Just decent.

Honestly, Idk about Always, but I've heard great things about the PQ of 1941 blu-ray. Perhaps, they weren't a 4K restorations? It doesn't matter anyway. The point is that Uni is perfectly capable of producing a great transfer.

I'm glad Universal is stepping up and taking care of their own film library for a change. The Breakfast Club turned out nice so anxiously awaiting Apollo 13 and Spartacus!!!!!! Hopefully they hit a home run with these 2 as well!

It is very, very unlikely that Universal would license Criterion's exclusive special features from that DVD.

I would hang onto my Criterion for the amazing Saul Bass cover art alone, something I can pretty much guarantee Universal wii NOT use.

You know that they licensed most of the Criterion extras for the worldwide SE DVD of Spartacus, right? There might be a covenant in place that prohibits Universal using them in North America but it'd be nice if the upcoming remaster went 'all in' as far as AV quality *and* extras are concerned. If it doesn't, then that's pretty much a guarantee that we'll have to wait for a Criterion BD to get both the remaster and the extras in one package, but I'll keep my R2 SE DVD so if the remaster is barebones it won't bother me.

I just hope they remember to pick the "high resolution film elements" and avoid them low resolution ones!

This is great news. But I wish we could get some Blu-rays of 'The Lost Weekend', (1944) 'The Heiress' (1949), etc.

Agreed. I hope these upcoming two movies turn out well too...and would be great to see them release Back to the Future remastered this year given its 30th ann.

I mean, Universal released Dazed and Confused on Blu-ray and then Criterion released it two months later, so there's definitely a possibility of seeing it from Criterion.

This is of course great news. I have this as part of the original Kubrick Blu Ray set, but haven't even watched it because I've heard it's so bad.

It's watchable if you haven't seen it in a while, but the red push is an eyesore.

I did not buy the first release because of the negative reviews. This is one of my favorite films I hope they treat it with the respect it deserves.
Also where is the war lord.

I'm keeping my Criterion DVD and swapping discs when the Universal BD is released. I always loved that artwork on the Criterion, plus Universal is more than likely to come up with some photoshoppped abomination in an ecopack.
