This is what I think
is a way to get rid of the stock funds, then to experts who will request it (few) will be given a copy right ... anyway I can make mistakes

Link to Zavvi Steelbook below. Artwork appears to be the same as Italian Release and other Regions. Special Features the same as on the new US 10/6 "Remaster" Release. Limited to 1,000 ....

I'm gonna pass on the Steelbook and get the OST CD to go with the Universal Remastered/Restored Blu-ray. Of course I'll be selling the UV/Digital Copy.
OR I'm gonna pass on putting the multitude of the OST CDs I want to buy for SPARTACUS in the same case.
Because http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/c...p?movieid=2695 lists:

SVC 5994, Soundtrack Library CD015, and Varese Sarabande CD Club VCL 0610 1109. Too many discs!

Kinda inexpensive from buying it: (Dunno about their shipping or if they have the slipcovers with titles if they're supposed to.) $12.83 seems very reasonable.

http://www.blowitoutahere.com/spartacus/025192275678

EDIT: When Criterion get around to releasing their Blu-ray with the new transfer, I'm still keeping the Universal release.

As far as I know, of the CDs listed there, only two are legit, the others are all bootlegs or rerecordings. That makes it much simpler.

1) http://www.amazon.com/Spartacus-Orig...dp/B0018GFEFQ/
This CD, which I own, is a reissue of the original 1960 LP program, released in 1991 to coincide with the restored film hitting theaters.

2) https://www.varesesarabande.com/products/spartacus
This super-duper collector's edition has 6 CDs of music and even a DVD with a documentary on the music, and is the definitive version of the score. See the link for a description of what's on each disc.

So go for the first OST release you linked to for placement with the upcoming Blu-ray release then? MCA Classics MCAD-10256 since it appears the SVC 5994 is a rerecording (different conductor and not from the studio vaults)?
This would be far easier if an isolated score in lossless DTS-HD MA or LPCM were available on the upcoming Blu-ray disc release. The Varese Saraband I'd leave in its own case since it'd be too unwieldly to buy a multi-disc Viva Elitle case just to have it with the Restored Blu-ray.

The two I linked are the only legitimate, legal releases I know of. The SVC one you mention appears to be a bootleg, from what I can Google. There were many, many bootlegs circulating for years before Varese released their definitive set.

Wondering if I should look for the Varese set on eBay or not since it's quite definitive but no idea about the price range for it. For the single disc OST CD it seems far more likely I'd be placing it in with the Restored Blu-ray, since the 2-CD appears to be not as legitimate.
As I've already mentioned, far easier when the Isolated Score is with the film, even with commentary from the composer, instead of having weird combinations if the OST CD release(s) are more than 3 discs.

I had that SVC CD bootleg years ago, it is the original score, but it's mono. The (very expensive!) Varese also has the complete original score in mono, plus about 73 minutes in stereo. That's the original album (which was not a re-recording) & tapes for a second album that was never released. It's a shame that all the original music tapes at Universal didn't make it (the scores from Ben-Hur & Cleopatra fared much better). Unless you want to spend a LOT of money on the Varese, I'd go for the very cheap MCA.

I'm gonna go for the cheap MCA OST CD release to place with the Restored Blu-ray disc. Still haven't looked on eBay how much the Varese is going for. I'll do that later.

EDIT: Since the listing online for Best Buy lists the SKU as seven digits (4429475) and states: Store Pickup - Coming Soon, really gives me hope I'll be able to buy this on release day October 6th. With Slipcover obviously since I don't really care about Steelbooks.

The Spanish site Mubis have just posted a bunch of screenshot comparisons between the 50th and 55th Anniversary releases.

Check it out.

Wow, those comparisons are amazing, & being able to slid between the old & new is a great function. There a couple of shots where just a tad more detail in the old version, but that's where they wound the electronic sharpening right up. This is going to look so good & so film like.

Catalogue release of the year!

The sliding comparisons are a low-res novelty. When the actual 1080p shots start to appear people will see just how much this destroys the old BD.

There is a full 1080p option on the site.

Yeah, this restoration is amazing.

Geez. At least someone is putting in an effort with Kubrick's stuff. Too bad it's not the good stuff.

I never actually saw the need to purchase the previous Spartacus Blu-Ray because of its bad reviews for its picture. Had this Blu-Ray been released in 2010 it would be a must own that I would have gladly purchased. But with an Ultra HD Blu-Ray format out in a few months I can't help but worry that a Ultra HD version of this same remaster won't be far behind. Remastered 1080p presentations are just too little to late at this point when this should have been how Spartacus was first released five years ago

Criterion did a fabulous job with their Kubrick titles. Kino did a terrific job with Fear and Desire. Dr. Strangelove looks fantastic. Full Metal Jacket, 2001, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Lolita all look great. Eyes Wide Shut is the only really questionable transfer from WB. I stand by A Clockwork Orange will never really be able to look all that great. Better? Sure. Great? Not likely. So I don't know what you mean. Oh and Spartacus isn't the good stuff?
