I makes me really glad that we are still seeing these sorts of remasters in the end times of BD.

The question is whether or not you should wait for the eventual 4K BD of this instead…

End times? Blu-ray is gonna be the standard home video format for years to come.

Ultra-HD BD is doomed before it actually happens....

And I always wonder how different SPARTACUS would have turned out if Anthony Mann had directed it. I love Kubrick and won't get into a silly comparison debate between he and Mann, but I personally believe the latter had a better feel for what we generally define as "epic" filmmaking than Kubrick did.

Actually I am just glad we are still seeing great remasters og great films! I can still fondly remember when I saw the remaster of Once Upon a Time in The West on DVD.
I was blown away about how good it looked on the Sony Triniton 32" CRT widescreen tv!

But it's Stanley Kubrick I think his films are amongst the best in WB's library, and it's insulting to see The Fugitive and Enter the Dragon get better treatment than one of the best films of all time. Can you imagine if Sony released 4K remasters of Godzilla and Men in Black, but reused an HDTV-era master for Lawrence of Arabia?!

And it's not like WB has to revisit and remaster Clockwork Orange while they're in the middle of a busy schedule. My point is that they already did, the hard part's over it takes minimal effort to take that video and put it on a disc.

Strangely enough I saw no indications given on that page as to which transfer is which.

When I drag the scrolling bar towards the right of the image I'm replacing a bluish looking transfer with a much richer golden-toned transfer.

Which one is the new transfer?

Thanks.

Look again, the labels are in the bottom left of the black bars (not that you really need them, as the new restoration is vastly superior to the 2010 BD).

One of the keys to his other work is that he chose the subject and/or source novel himself. We would have to ask about Spartacus, would he have chosen this tale to tell to begin with? Only then can we consider what he might have done with it. Honestly, I don't think it's ambiguous or challenging enough a historical figure/situation to have sustained his interest even if he had initiated the project himself.

Please tell us that you're using a phone

If you're not using a phone, try look at them in 1080p. You CANNOT mistake which is which. It's impossible.

Ah yes, thanks. I didn't notice the "50" changing to "55" as I scrolled.
At first I was preferring the warmer color in the older version, but once I changed to 1080 res the advantage of the newer transfer was clear.

I hope we can get this soon.

I also thought the new caps looked a bit too cool, but then I looked at them on another computer & they looked spot-on, just goes to show that, to judge a Blu-ray, you really have to look at the Blu-ray. It is a big change, but the old one is just so red/orange.

Remastered 1080p presentations are just too little to late at this point when this should have been how Spartacus was first released five years ago
But how long before you have a 4K player and projector? I'm not waiting. In this 'business' you'll always be waiting....
