For me, it's not a question of resuming. Sometimes I just want to skip to a particular favorite scene. In this case, I might want to just see the "I'm Spartacus!" scene, or one of the battle scenes.
And I haven't played with this disc enough to see if it even has the resume feature. Many Blu-rays don't. |

Is the slipcover on this release shrink wrapped? Only asking because if not then Barnes & Noble isn't the best store to purchase it you will either get no slip or it will be destroyed by their archaic price stickers.

No, shrink was on the case only. There is the usual digital info. sticker on the slipcover.

I understand that new release product needs as much exposure as possible, hence the need to sell those titles everywhere, but this isn't just any remastered catalog title, it's a newly-remastered restored version one of the most well-known and loved epic films of the past century, and Universal proved that by paying for the large format elements to be re-scanned at high resolution. In terms of commercial product, this is basically Universal's equivalent of Ben-Hur, Gone with the Wind or The Wizard of Oz, and it sure as hell should have been sent to stores on release day, as WB did with those films. If the stores had had this today, they would have sold copies, and if they had advertised it, they would have sold even more copies. And I know that rationale applies to every release, and that we all must pick and choose, but in the case of Spartacus, Universal and these stores dropped the ball, period.

I'm 57, and I gave up on B & M stores years ago. Shopping online since 2007.
To each his own, but if I adapted to such a change, it seems odd that those younger than me still " expect " things to be the way they used to be. |

I don't really want to get into a thing, but let me try to explain my complaint. On this Blu-ray, Chapter 14, "Battalion," lasts just over 30 minutes long. 30 MINUTES! That covers the battle, the aftermath, and a couple of dramatic character scenes. On the Criterion DVD, they used 6 chapter stops to cover the same material. There's even one called "I Am Spartacus." More chapter stops just makes it easier to skip around the movie and rewatch your favorite scenes. I can't be the only person who does this? Come home from a hard day, pop a disc in, watch a favorite scene to lift your mood? Anyways, I am not going to lose any sleep over chapter stops. I am going to lose sleep watching this beautiful movie over and over and over....it's stunning! Last edited by GrouchoFan; 10-06-2015 at 08:28 PM. |
