Watched this last night. Trying to find something to complain about....let's see...well, it could have been a little more.....no that's not it....it just seemed a bit.....nope.

Can't find anything to complain about. This is every bit the equal of the Lawrence BD and probably the best BD Universal has ever produced.

High praise indeed, but it's sad that when they've knocked it clear out of the park the bricks and mortar retailers just don't want to know. Gotta keep them shelves clear for the BTTF anniversary edition I suppose.

Haven't seen the restored Spartacus yet, but I expect it would look better.
Comparing Jaws and Spartacus isn't going to be much of a help, due to the nature of the original negative being much different in size and different stocks.

There is nothing to complain about with this Spartacus blu. The transfer is amazing and the restoration is one of the best for films in that time period by far.

Viewed it today as my BD arrived from over the pond. I have put a short review up, all I can say is that it was worth the wait. Now the wait continues till October 27th for "My Fair Lady" What a month!

Is there a trailer of the new 4K transfer? Tried searching but the trailers are all pretty bad quality.

I would have cancelled if it was anywhere in my area.
They just lost a customer for all items except those that my local stores don't carry.

I ordered it the day it came available for preorder.
But anybody can have it tomorrow if the pay the extra postage.
Mine says Oct 12 to Oct 16.
They finally shipped mine today - 4 days after release. *sigh* I don’t know where all these folks got this for $9.52 or whatever. I paid $14.94 +tax.

Just finished adding this title to the cataloging software that I use, DVD Profiler and My Movies. Thought I'd share the raw scan with everyone that I worked up. Enjoy!

Huh, so this was restored from a 35mm print? How come not 65mm? Would that not have provided a better result? Or have I misunderstood something? I mean I understand it is great anyway, but I thought this was meant to be restored from 65mm.

Spartacus was shot in Technirama, which is a 35mm negative running horizontally through the camera, with an image that is 8 film perforations wide (the same as photographic 35mm), as opposed to 4 high on standard 35mm, and with an anamorphic lens applying a light squeeze to get it to the appropriate widescreen aspect ratio (Vistavision is the same film format with a regular lens).

Should put to rest anyone thinking that Universal's new regime doesn't know how to remaster films properly.

How come I was thinking it was 65mm? Don't know where I got that idea...

Probably just the aspect ratio mixed up my memory.

Probably cause the film restoration negative is 65mm but the original camera negative was 35 blown up to 65mm for preservation stock.

TO those who own it, how much are you paying for this?

The cheapest I can find one converts to $35 AUD which is a lot pricier than I thought for a catalog tittle.

Because it was shot in 8/35 but it was meant to be PROJECTED in 70mm (with 2.20:1 AR)

That's why the marketing name was: Super Technirama 70

Of course you can express an opinion whether right or wrong.

But if it's wrong, don't expect people not to say so.

Got my viewing of this disk in last night. I can confirm that the transfer is one of the best I've ever seen.
