I tried to watch this, but with all the weird flexing, shirt lifting, showing of his spiky bracelet, etc could not get much further than the whole merit of the original US title thing. Is this a sales pitch or a Jerry Springer audition video?

The weirdness is a lot more fun than some typical product cover shots on Twitter, IMO.

The entertainment in Dark Force Entertainment doesn't stop at the discs

JOPE, Bill and The Demon mentioned you a few times on last night's live feed that they're angry that you troll them. Bill's rants were hysterical. They weren't sure if it's pronounced Jope or Jopey.

It won't be a pristine release. It will be in line with the drive in series. That's what makes the cost of doing the cover on top of the restoration and 50GB disc such a shame. That cost was just too high and ended up pushing them to raise the price far over what anyone would have expected.

Multiple item orders are always preferable but the best ways to achieve that, other than bundling with many, many variations of bundles, to attract as many buyers as possible, is to release multiple films at once and then nothing for a month or two, then a few releases, nothing again, and so on. If three come out every three months, releasing them on the same day solves all of those problems. Making sure those releases aren't anywhere near Memorial Day or Black Friday guarantees even more sales, from people who aren't as strapped for cash.

Now that's just a personal attack. David is just being David. Judging him for just being himself, for being a person who is more obsessed with fitness and physicality than most people, is like judging the guy wearing the Battlestar Galactica T-shirt for showing off his intelligence and good taste. Actors who work out flex all the time, showing off, and after a while you learn to smile and nod and accept that fitness is their obsession, while you're thinking about kitchen tile or when you'll have time to bathe the dogs. Faulting people for having their own unique personality is a step too far.

On the issue of the angrier parts of the live feed from last night....

Sometimes Bill gets upset, when criticism is piling up more than it should, but he is fine normally and doesn't act like this. He's not nice like me, pathological about it, but he's nice like a regular guy, and right now he is just more upset than normal and letting it show. The yelling is usually what happens when he's really quite a bit more upset than normal. Sometimes people watching a video online seem to forget that humans need to vent once in a while.

As to David, he is also a pretty regular nice guy. He's upset because the release went way over on cost and they are trying to figure out how to make a decent profit in a world where most fans don't have that kind of money to spend and some people are being mean about conveying that message, instead of just saying the price is too high for them. That isn't what any business owner wants to hear and doesn't make for a pleasant time. The trolling comments on Facebook that are getting removed rather quickly are far worse than the ones they leave up and actually worse than what I've seen here. Dealing with that, on top of financial concerns, probably really sucks for him, so, again, he's just a bit angry at certain points in the video because the situation is difficult.

People should cut them a break when it comes to the upset parts of the live feed, the yelling parts. No one likes realizing cost has gone too high so profits will be lower than expected. Bill has always said that there are certain titles that would cost too much to put out because the purchases wouldn't even break even on that cost. Right now they are dealing with a situation where the effort and money has already been spent on a release that has cost more than anticipated, but they can't not release it, as the money was already spent. They have to sell it and get as much as they can for it in a world where most people can't spend $40 for a blu-ray where they only want one of the films.

Grindhouse Drive-in releases aren't meant to be that expensive and they already said, a while ago now, that #7 was going to be a standard release. They said that right around the time the cost for the upgraded cover had been factored in with the cost of the 50GB disc and the restorations of the two films on #6 and they realized they were facing a slight over-expenditure in the investment stage.

Forgiveness is warranted for the angry parts of this video. Neither Bill nor David is actually looking to physically attack anyone.

The cost to bump up to a BD-50 for a 1000 quantity run might add $2/disc at most to the overall cost.

Yes, forgiveness can be warranted, but some of the things Bill says goes far beyond anger and just isn't normal.

It was added cost for the 50GB disc, plus the unanticipated additional color correction on Psycho From Texas, plus the additional correction on Gates of Hell, because it was a print, plus the commissioned intermission presentation, plus the box.... It just went too high.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, no I get that, I was just saying that the cost for the dual layer disc wouldn't (shouldn't) be the major contributor to the overall cost increase.

I'd be curious as to how much the glow-in-the-dark slipcover contributed to the overall per unit cost. From what I gather based on DeFalco's statements it would seem it was pretty expensive.

I think, as each thing was added on, David got to experience, in a business context, what many of us have experienced, in a shopping context, at the annual BF sale at VS. All the little things we add on, in succession, while thinking, "It hardly costs anything, why the heck not", end up costing $200. In another example, at the annual Amazon Digital $0.99 blow-out, where the movies on sale are not worth a penny, you can end up spending $100 for films that will quite literally be viewed for five to ten minutes before you quit watching, because even the worst Troma is better than this $0.99 sale garbage. Although, now that I think of it, a couple of my Tromas came from that sale, three or four years back, the ones that aren't watchable, of course.

He added things and kept adding things and the cost built up a bit more than it should have. Then he added the glow-cover. The glow-cover is definitely what pushed those costs over the cliff. If only he had been working on Ator at that time, which was always going to get a glow-cover anyway and had a pristine source available for the movie itself, instead of a Drive-in series blu, which wasn't meant for that kind of limited edition in the first place.

To any who questioned whether he really loves the Dead Pit Limited Glow-Cover as much as he said he does, the proof that he absolutely does is in the inability to resist doing a glow-cover for #6. He just couldn't say no.

I’m trying to watch the stream now. What title was Bill accused of using an “up-res” on? I couldn’t really follow, but he clearly disagreed with the claim.

I thought he was talking about The Farmer at that point, a hypothetical situation of releasing it, when all he has a is a tape-master/VHS.... He said people would lose it over him using an up-scaled version for release. Was he talking about a different film at that point?

You’re probably right. I thought he was talking about a title that had already released. The Farmer makes sense.

Earlier in this thread dawnofthediscs stated he believed that Psycho from Texas was going to be an upscale but could not provide any evidence when pressed

They'd moved on from Gates/Psycho by that point in the live feed. Pretty sure it was during the reasons for not releasing The Farmer.

Desecration was an upscale, wasn't it? I think that's the only one...maybe it had some reference to that?

Yes, Desecration was most definitely an SD upscale. It even has a disclaimer on the back cover that it comes from a tape source.

I'd like to know how that deal came to pass. That's definitely one of the weirdest releases in CR's history.

We should all trademark our usernames. That way, every time we get mentioned (or threatened) on live feeds we'd get royalty checks. At the very least, the owners of Blu-ray.com should be happy they're receiving free publicity from these guys. Millions of Fark Dorce faceplantbook followers now know about the infamous Blu-ray.com "problem" posters. We're recognized worldwide. Seriously, w should be gettin' paid.
