People were going to buy it whether it was bundled or unbundled, with a slip or without a slip. You may have moved a few extra units of older under performing titles but you did so at the expense of folks like myself that would like a bigger Code Red/Dark Forces library but don't want to deal with all the extra drama (or inflated prices) to grow one. After my latest experience I'm perfectly content buying second hand or simply not buying blind buys at all from either company as I wait for the next set of releases from Arrow/Scream Factory/Vinegar Syndrome/Severin/Synapse/etc.
I agree with what you're saying except one thing: Synapse. At least there's an opportunity to buy from DF, where with Synapse, they'll talk their head off about what they're working on, but will keep you waiting 5 years, as they hardly release anything.

It’s just best to pretend like Synapse isn’t even a company. Then when something actually does come out just treat it like a surprise release out of nowhere.

That's one way of looking at it, but I just recently got into Synapse and bought about 15 of their movies over the last few months. It was easy to find their products any time of the day, and there was no artificial scarcity to try to make them collectable and drive the price up. I don't need a company to churn out product every month. As long as they deliver a good product and make it available I am happy.

Dark force just announced that Gates of Hell will be available next week for $39.99!! That's insane considering it's coming from an ugly beat up print. I'll stick to my arrow release and wait for the new scan from Scorpion.

If so that is a done deal for me.
Not a dollar more from me to DF
really looking forward to walt's version. i don't know why people throw such lavish praise on the arrow release -- i think it's kind of lacking.

But it glows in the dark! Surely it's worth $139.99?

The sort of person that would happily pay $40 would probably need a glowing light to find their arse hole.

I don't pay that much for Criterions. Or regular Blu-rays for that matter. DF is insane

... but, but, it has a "very expensive [glow-in-the-dark] custom slip".

I watched The Dead Pit this week and have to say it was a good presentation, definitely pleased with the video quality. The slip looks cool, although for $35 it should've at least had reversible artwork and/or booklet. Glad to finally have this one, still a bit surprised I actually got my hands on it considering the gong show surrounding this release.

$40 for Gates of Hell is more than frustrating. I will live without the glow in the dark cover and a 4th copy of Gates of Hell. I don't think I could live with myself spending 40 bucks on a curio piece. I'll gladly give Dark Force my money if they change their marketing, prices, and availability. This makes it easy to walk out and not look back. Sad to say.

The Arrow release is pretty much perfect IMO; what’s lacking?

Absolutely delusional! Anyone who buys this is certifiably insane.

Nothing is lacking. Grain haters will always prefer "clean" editions. As far as I'm concerned, no other release for Gates of Hell is necessary.

Maybe. Let's see - do you prefer "clumpy" grain or "fine" grain?

I had no plans on buying this anyway. But $40 for a beaten up prints wrapped in a tacky looking sleeve? Thats highway robbery.
