Its strange. I'm not sure if the film is cropped in the DF release.
This is as far back as this shot goes on the DF release.

Dark Force Gates of Hell

Blue Underground

Notice the bartender to the right isn't even in the frame and the wall to the left of the door is missing.

I have the Arrow version and, tbh, I don't like how it looks on my TV.

Arrow has two versions, one in which detail is severely lacking and one in which there is an abundance. You can't be wrong in commenting on "the Arrow release", unless you specify which one you mean and actually get it wrong.

For example, "The Arrow release is spectacular" and "The Arrow release is just crap" are both 100% accurate.

Thank you for posting several screenshots with comparison photos.

I’m actually very excited.
What’s the run time on Gates of Hell?
If you don’t mind. Curious if any footage, like the gore, is actually missing.
Debating this release, just want to make sure it’s not a simple unpolished grindhouse master.

It was scanned from a theatrical/circulated print of the film, so whatever version was shown in drive-ins is the version they used.

Do you have the Code Red DVD of Psycho from Texas to do comparison screen shots of that and the Dark Force blu-Ray?

Ah. I get it.... As to the detail comparison, BU was a bit stripped of grain and then sharpened, so, on the one hand, it has a better appearance, as to the easy-to-sharpen fine details, like the hair strands and flowers in the caps comparison photos, but, on the other hand, it appears less natural and actually strips detail in other instances, such as fine facial details, skin imperfections and the like. The new Arrow 4K has grain in tact, didn't strip fine detail and wasn't sharpened in the same way.... Funny, because I still prefer the older, less detailed version, even with all the positive things I have to say about their 4K master. Given the new special features they added in, even though the master is too perfect, for me, for this kind of film, I really do love that new version.

I imagine, if I can ever afford it, David's will be my favourite version of the film itself, as it doesn't have so much detail, as to allow me to see all the places in which cheap props and lesser-make-up ended up being used, and it has a grungier feel to it, without sacrificing so much visual information that you suffer the blandness of a dvd, faded in comparison to an HD scan. That 4K close-up of a foam prop-gravestone.... Ugh.

Speaking of, would you be willing to post a screengrab of the foam gravestone with the line down the side, showing it is a foam prop, from David's version, for me to compare to my others? Thank you, if you say yes.

There's a review here with a couple screencaps at the end (the review covers all the films on the original dvd)...I don't know if that is of any help?

PM Horror Nerd some screengrabs, preferably not of dead plants. The offer was made earlier.

I really wish my copy of dead pit would ship. Ordered the 14th got confirmation and checked website next day and somehow my order date changed to 15th. Kinda miffed tbh. If it does not ship on mon/Tuesday DF is getting emailed. Hope it’s worth it lol.

Dead Pit turned out really well and is a genuinely solid release. It was the kind of full restoration DF did on MMII, from a quality source, and it showed. I think it will be worth it for you, Dead Pit, specifically. I love it.

Just a heads up... It’s not unusual for Dark Force to take a week or longer to ship now. However, once an order finally ships, it’s delivered fairly quickly.

I hate the blocky, cheapo Blu-ray cases that Code Red and Dark Force (and sometimes Scorpion) use.
