We just got a straight answer, from Code Red, specifically from Bill.
We did but you insist on muddying the waters.

Bill said he got the SD master for DVD. The company wanted additional funds for the HD master.

Nowhere does it say they went back and paid to access the HD master.

You are really a endless volume of mis information and spin.

Guys, it’s very clearly an upscale. Both evidenced by the actual screenshots and Dark Force’s responses. It’s as plain as day.

There is absolutely zero improvement in detail, and the color now looks over-saturated to me.

Yep. Now explain on Gates of Hell, your version it's ok to look "not pristine". The grindhouse look is better according to you. But yet now you're praising the non grindhouse look of the upgraded Psycho from Texas.

Just keep reading that statement over and over again.

This company is only in business to release "collectible" product. The films themselves are apparently irrelevant to them. Why not just forgo the films and just release slips in empty cases.

I sense another falsehood being asserted here.

If you had paid for and accessed the HD master,
you could have fixed the framing and the movie would actually look better, have more detail ect.
You did not.

Hell,
even if you accessed the SD master you could have fixed the framing.

Here is a comparison frame grab from the DVD vs. the Dark Force disc. If you look closely there is slightly more information at the top of the frame. That wouldn't be there had they just used the DVD as a source and upscaled it. I'm thinking it's just as they said and an HD scan made by the lab at the same time as the SD one for the DVD. Either way, it looks better in motion on my 110" projection screen than the DVD so I'm happy.

What I find ironic is the company Grindhouse (Releasing) doesn't live up to it's name. Instead of releasing "grindhouse" prints (like DFs GOH with lines), they release perfection!

I think the company name refers to the types of films they release, not the quality of the scans they use (even though The Beyond and Cannibal Holocaust are subpar). They specialize in films that circulated the Grindhouse cinemas.

I have to agree though with Defalco that Psycho does look better on the new blu, even going by screens. Even looked better on the live stream showing it off the TV. Is it a revelation? No. Upscale? Maybe. I guess though when you charge $40, people expect more. Maybe if it was cheaper, in the $20-$25 range, most may write it off as just a bonus. It's also funny when he calls the movies a "bonus", as if people are literally paying $40 just for the slipcover. I'm sure if that was the case, nobody would complain about Psycho. I personally haven't bought any of these glow in the dark releases. Too expensive for so little. Slips look cool no doubt, but not $20 cool. VS's slips are definitely worth paying an extra $3 or $4 for though, going by their prices on their site. I have trouble buying VS releases with slips though if the standard version shows up for like $10 or $15 cheaper from other retailers.

Some of us may sound like cheapos, but keep in mind a lot of us are collectors and not rich. There's tons of releases we want, but can't afford ASAP. Sometimes we have to wait for sales to catch up on releases because there's so many. Sometimes we have to pick and choose with what little money we may have to spend on releases. Like choosing a limited edition release over a wide release because it wont be there later if we try to get it later.

Dark Force is run like a circus, with the head clown Defalco at the helm. I choose not to give my money to them anymore and haven't since the release of The Last Victim/Forced Entry. Maybe once he learns to run a business, I'll throw my money back that way.. .

It's always gonna look better than dvd. That's always one of the dumbest things DF posts with their releases. As you type you are slowly starting to get what it's about. The price is crazy. BSing people that these slipcovers are so expensive to produce is silly.

But the whole point is it's deceptive. He is intentionally trying to deceive his customers. And the biggest thing about it is it's unnecessary. People will still buy it if you are being upfront about it.

Here's the value of the Dark Force DF: Gates of Hell $10, the box $5, Psycho From Texas $10 = $25 total.

I wish our esteemed moderator Oildude would return to this thread and issue warnings against multiple abuses of doing this. He mentioned how exasperating all the epic, meandering word filled posts are and I contend these marathon non-spoiler image laden posts are just as bad, particularly when it’s compounded by quoting the same crap over and over again. This practice clutters up the thread every bit as much as the shill soliloquies.

And there appears to be a sliver less on the bottom. It's possible these aren't exact frame matches which might explain the sliver of a difference.

Yeah you can see the difference on his arm resting on the counter. The sleeve is clearly clipped on the screen grab from the blu. Though, the reflection on the countertop does appear to be more defined than the dvd. Bottom line, “this is the best this 45 year old movie will ever look.” - - until someone else does a new master...I mean, uncovers the long lost negative....
