Primal Scream is a great pick!

Dark Force version of Backlot Murders and Freeway 2 did not have any special slipcover, etc, so MVD version should be basically the same - and both are being put out by MVD so I'd just grab whichever you can get first/cheaper. If you message Dave he'd probably hook you up with copies now tho

Just finished Teenage Hitchhikers. A fantastic release from Dark Force! The movie is really funny too and Sandra Peabody is awesome in it. Anyone on the fence should order with confidence.

Also I’m with those waiting for a Primal Rage / The Banker bundle, please make it happen Dave!

How limited is Primal Rage going to be? I'd like to get it, but I'd just assume wait until Blue Monkey is available and save on $12 in shipping ($6 per order).

Probably will still be around but it could be a very long wait for blue monkey

i'm on the same boat; i was debating on paying the six in shipping for primal rage last night, or if i really needed death rage right now or should wait for the wide-release- is blue monkey the next release on the horizon, other than the next drive-in set? i'd be a monkey's uncle if there isn't a "monkey madness two-pack" with blue monkey and primal rage. (could throw in shakma, i noticed that on the website as still in stock).

i'm severely behind on my scope of monkey movies and that blu-ray of m.v.p. isn't getting any closer, so i could dig it if dark force helped with that a bit.

Yeah, waiting for a bundle that includes Yeti, Banker and Primal Rage. Or, some kind of combination of two of them. Already have Death Rage, and no interest in Chinese Hercules.

Is someone able to give me the cliff notes version of why Blue Monkey is being called Insect? I assume that the title difference is simply due to a regional release matter, but why print slips with the far more mundane "Insect" title instead of "Blue Monkey"? Is there a benefit/reason why "Insect" was selected over Blue Monkey that anyone is aware of that can share? Furthermore, will the Blue Monkey cover art show up on the reverse side? I much prefer the Blue Monkey title and art and so the fancy slip doesn't actually mean a whole lot to me in this case as this is the art I'm looking forward to...

Here is the synopsis...

While working in a greenhouse, a man receives an insect bite after touching an exotic plant. Immediately, he falls ill and is taken to an emergency room where the doctors diagnose him as suffering from an unknown bacteria, and a strange parasite which emerges from his mouth as a large slimy wormlike creature. Soon, there are more cases of bacterial infection, but the more immediate problem for the hospital is the wormlike creature which after accidental exposure to a genetic growth stimulant grows to monstrous proportions and starts a reign of terror and bloodshed in the hospitals abandoned wing.

The real question should be "Why was it ever called Blue Monkey?" I don't recall there being monkeys in it, unless scientists were experimenting on them.

Blue Monkey was the title at release in USA/Canada but then they changed it to Insect for USA home video and international release; the slipcover art on the DF release is one of the original artworks used for the movie.

The insect title and art does make more sense for the content of the movie and arguably the insect art looks more exciting for marketing purposes.

There was some line in there regarding a blue monkey, but I can’t remember the context. I watched it on YouTube a few years ago.

I think the idea (and why they likely changed course after initial release) is that this movie could appeal to those who like old school monster movies. But "blue monkey" is a weird title that doesnt describe the movie that well and the blue monkey poster makes it look like it's going to be some hallucinogenic acid trip. "Insect" with it's more straightforward name and art better describes the movie content might cross-appeal to the people who like movies such as the below who never heard of blue monkey before.
