As far as the lightsaber, i wouldnt think of them as guards. Think about if you had two sabers clash you could activate the side lasers and potentially cut through the opponents saber or hands.

I admit i have only seen Adam driver in one movie and i hardly remember his tone of voice.

If its not benedict it would be a weird choice to pick a tone/style of voice so close to his.

Either way looks awesome
Driver's voice is very low.

It was a good tease. But it felt like I was looking at deleted scenes from the special editions.

Hah! That's exactly what I've called him, the "soccer ball" droid!

It would be a perfect guard though keeping the enemies saber from going any further than the hilt.

Look at us discussing the safety of Star Wars lightsabers.

Didn't you say previously this takes place years after the original trilogy?

I'll concede this point on a technical basis. However, given the scene with the falcon shows engagement with Tie Fighters...seems rather moot to "sneak under radar" when you are already detected & in a dogfight. Additionally, I wouldn't be skeptical it's being done solely to "look cool" if they hadn't shown BOTH Xwings and Falcon doing it.

Right...so why don't all lightsabers have it then? One of the issues with the prequels was that lucas kept trying to "out do" himself. We got Maul with the double sided...and then it went out of control from there with trying to "up" it with each successive movie. But that fine. If you like it, you are entitled to that opinion.

And that's why I'm saying I hope the movie explains this a bit. Need to know more. Sure, someone could stumble into a cave and find some old Sith teachings. All I'm saying is that this doesn't seem "fresh". I hope it's not quickly glanced over with some small scene, and we're expected to "buy it" just to move the plot along more quickly. But we shall see.

it's only a teaser but I already love the tone. Certainly better than the prequels!

I got that kinda vibe too, it's very clean and shiny and digital looking. Still, with the huge amount of people saying that an 88-second teaser is better than the prequels it just shows you: all Lucas had to do with the prequels was put in the Falcon and X-Wings doing some fancy shit and the fans would've been well happy.

Kinda makes me wonder if the new film will be hysterically overrated when it finally arrives simply because people want to give Lucas the finger...

I don't agree that it looks "shiny and digital looking" AT ALL. Sure, there's digital effects there, but the fact that it looks "real" and "gritty" is exactly why I'm so excited over the teaser. It looks like the original films - and, no, not just because it showed TIE fighters and the MF.

The voice could be Andy Serkis. He has an amazing range as a voice actor. I thought it sounded like it was Cumberbatch at first but I am sure he would have been announced.

Awesome trailer, sotrm troopers look awesome, X-wings awesome, and that millenium falcon . My only gripe is that I am not a fan of the lightsaber but that is minor.

No it wouldn't, because the hilt is protruding slightly where the guard blades are being emitted. Another lightsaber can cut right through the hilt. The guards seem pretty useless.

As good as the Cumberbi***es will be for this movie and as cool of a voice that the Batch has the voice in the trailer sounds like Adam Driver with some added effects to it.

Andy Serkis has got a decidedly gruff 'quack' to his voice, whether he's voicing Ian Dury or Gollum. Would be surprised if it was him.

As for that droid, dare I say it's cuter than R2D2? I hope these films do move on from being attached to the original trilogy's iconic characters a little, whilst a few of them hang around. I wouldn't mind if R2D2 and C3PO had to retire or something, if I'm honest (maybe they live with Han and Leia, or even Luke). I'd like to see a fresh start for Star Wars with glimmers of familiarity from the past trilogy (of course). The same can be said about Jurassic World - Jurassic Park and Star Wars being my most-loved films as a child.
