I have the widescreen VHS tapes and the bonus discs that came with the dvds that I bought off of ebay. The VHS tapes have the subs by Greedo and Jabba in the picture but the DVDs have them at the bottom so if you zoom the picture in you lose some of them.

Yeah that's annoying. I ended up having to buy the DVDs twice. The 2004 set had no mention that there would be further alterations. Then the 2006 ones advertised they'd have the original unalteted version, so I ended up buying the Triology twice. So I have the VHS and DVD releases, but I refused to get the Blu-ray due to even more alterations.

which includes the unaltered OT it was a Best Buy exclusive, I have it. It comes in a tin case, very nice set and the only time the OT has been released unaltered on DVD.
People haven't forgotten, it just isn't good enough for them. There lies the problem - people want an unaltered version but want all the perks of the blu-ray versions.

And why not? Thousands of other movies are in pristine quality on blu-ray, in their theatrical versions.

What people want (myself included) is pristine 4K scans taken from the OCN, fully restored and remastered with proper colour correction.

How is that a problem exactly?

Something like that might be just crazy enough to catch on.

I thought that thread in the BD section was only for people to post about how awesome the changes are how the rest of us are entitled whiners?

I liked the teaser trailer but are the people who had problems with it allowed to post about what they find wrong or are they whiners too? It was a trailer meant to tease a film, people speculate from that trailer but then get the required "why are you complaining, you have to wait until you see the actual film." Sorry, but that double new lightsaber is dumb in the 2 seconds shown, being on screen for a 2 hour movie isn't going to change that.

Well technically so was Maul's or Doku's.

Variety article that starts with Iger talking about theme park plans, but then moves to thoughts on The Force Awakens production / teaser trailer.

Quote:
“I keep telling J.J. Abrams this is a $4 billion movie,” Iger said. “We need to treat this very special. It’s an unbelievable privilege and unbelievable responsibility to take a jewel and treat it in a way that is respectful of its past but brings it into the future.”

Early reaction to a teaser trailer already has been strong.

...

Disney nearly didn’t release a trailer, Iger admitted. Abrams is known for wanting to keep footage of his films under wraps. But the rabid “Star Wars” fanbase prompted Disney to come up with the brief introduction of what the new film would look like.

...

Iger noted how Abrams has relied more on physical sets and props that are significant in size and scope, rather than computer-generated imagery.

“That will give the film a look that will be extremely respectful of the look George (Lucas) created in the ’70s,” Iger said, “and will play well with ardent ‘Star Wars’ fans and play well with audiences today.”

Iger noted how the use of computer-generated graphics has made filmmaking seem “too easy.” “There’s a sameness to a lot of these films today,” Iger said. “The wow factor isn’t what it used to be. J.J. decided to create the physical wow factor.”
No pressure, J.J. Just a $4 billion franchise purchase riding on your movie.

Every single effect shot in the trailer has CGI.

But combined with model/practical effects/photography work. It's not CGI in isolation, which is what Iger is talking about.

Again, no one cares as long as it's utilized well. Not really.

That's the same thing they did with the prequels.

The new lightsaber design reminded me of this:

Now Luke's laser sword had some serious issues!

Now that would be hard to swing. Although you could kneel down and twirl and take out an army.

Which is why I said certain "evil Luke" rumors (even killing Han Solo?!?!) were absolute nonsense. This has to be a blast at the movies, the entire investment is riding on it.

I hope it's fun. Far too many movies think they have to depress the crap out of their audiences or be considered unworthy.

It's going to be a fun zippy space adventure film. Evil Luke? Every website that spread that false "evil Luke" rumor garbage is going to need a basket of towels to get the egg of their face.
