TPM was very much made for children. Also, you didn't walk in expecting it to measure up to your childhood nostalgia of see the original trilogy in theaters, as some older folks did.

I'm not saying that makes TPM a better or worse movie... just that I'm sure it did and always will skew the enjoyment factor for some.

In my opinion, the hate for the prequels is more than just nitpicking. I became a Star Wars fan a little too late, but I really enjoy the original trilogy, and hadn't heard very strong things about the prequel trilogy before seeing them. After seeing them, the criticisms weren't unwarranted. I really have a hard time deciding which one is worse.

JarJar warrants all the amount of hate that he gets in the Phantom Menace, and appears to get more and more annoying and obnoxious every time he comes back onscreen. One of the very few characters in film that I find unintentionally painful to sit through. Anakins' performance is awful, the CGI looks fake and generally awful, and the plot has no real focus. It's a style over substance movie, but the style isn't there so...

The main offenders in Attack of the Clones to me are the performances/love scenes between Anakin and Padme. They're some of the very few scenes in any movie I've seen that are just painful to sit through. The performances and dialogue are so awkward and stale and it really looks like the actors are not comfortable acting together. (Not sure if that was true, but it really comes across that way.) Aside from that, I don't really remember the movie too much. I just remember it being a bore and practically nothing else stands out (aside from Christopher Lee's part).

None of these elements are problems with the original trilogy.

Episode III was a lot better in my opinion, at least towards the end. They played to the (very) few strengths that the first two films had (i.e. JarJar doesn't speak, less of the prequel characters and more connection to the original trilogy, etc.) There were still elements to dislike, but Episode III came the closest to matching the original trilogy.

I thought the first trailer was a perfect teaser, and this was a great follow up teaser.

No complaints so far.

just because someone else has a cape doesnt make him Boba.
Actually, George Lucas himself said Boba Fett survived. I'm sure he was retconning because of the character's popularity, but at that time anything he said was official canon (even if it didn't appear in a story). Disney could ignore all that now, of course, and I don't think that character in the teaser is Fett.

And if you want to be technical, anything that Lucas doesn't have any involvement in could be considered authorized fan fiction, including Episode VII. Not that I'm complaining; some fan fiction is damn good, and a lot of Lucas' official stuff, not so much...

I loved that show. Wish they'd bring it back. I like hearing people discuss the behind-the-scenes of film, and not through the pre-planned, sanitized interviews on talk shows where they are just there to promote a film.

Agreed! Dinner for Five was always refreshing and had a true sense of realism to it. I would love if they brought it back one day.

“Star Wars” fans and aviation geeks, hold on to your butts: Japan’s All Nippon Airways and Disney's “Star Wars” franchise are joining forces, and painting a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner to look like R2-D2.

The announcement Thursday of the cross-promotion came as “Star Wars” fans gathered in Anaheim, Calif., to hear about the latest developments from cast and crew ahead of the December release of the sequel “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
[Show spoiler]

I don't know about this. Aircraft with R2D2 on them tend to get shot at a lot.

I've seen a good amount of people online try to claim that it is the dialogue lifted from RotJ, but I think it has different cadence and Hamill is a great voice actor. It is not beyond him to be able to make his voice sound younger.
To my ears it's the same dialogue takes from Jedi only with a bit of editing here and there which is what's throwing the cadence off. And it isn't backed with the music that we expect to hear from that original scene with Luke and Leia, so naturally it sounds different somehow. And if it sounds like Hamill as a young man it's because it *is* Hamill as a young man. I don't care how good a voice actor he is, he can't turn back time and lose that distinctive rasp that his voice has now. (See also: Clint Eastwood redubbing his lines for TGTBATU, it sounds nothing like him IMO.)

It will be interesting to see how the New Empire is portrayed in the movie, it looks like they're still drafting and quite a force to be reckoned with!
Oh don't worry chip, I've already been told in very large letters that it's not Tatooine, me not knowing that it'd already been explained at Celebration.

Captain Phasma certainly sounds corny enough like it belongs in the 1977 Star Wars disco age with MECO music. As I have no experience with the actress underneath this outfit, I can only hope she acts the part like she has a pair!
I feel exactly the same, Captain Phasma looks way cooler than Kylo Ren, and I'm more excited to see her in action to be honest. I think she could steal the show in the same way Boba did in Empire.

As for the name, it's not the coolest name ever but I like it precisely because it feels so Star Wars. In a universe where there are characters with names like General Grievous, this is right at home.

The nostalgic SW music.

I really like all of J.J. Abrams films so far, but this seems pure fan service, giving them the same old.

Harrison Ford looks older than Yoda, and clearly belongs in a retirement home, not in a SW film. That was the most awful moment of the whole thing.

I am still going to see it, obviously, but I am not expecting originality.

At least GL gave us something completely fresh and expanded the SW universe beyond anyone's imagination.

Just my 2 cents.

Disney is hell.

Also: This Christmas??? SW and Christmas feels so wrong on so many levels, it's not even funny.
As if Lucas didn't cram a massive amount of fan service into the PT?

The nostalgic music was there, for the marketing as well as the movies themselves. We saw Anakin's whole life story and his turn to the dark side. We saw the rise of the Empire (the first generation of Stormtroopers included). Characters like Obi-Wan, Yoda, R2, 3PO, Palpatine, Jabba, Boba, Owen and Beru and Chewbacca all showed up for minor, supporting or major roles.

The Republic's vehicles were all designed to look like precursors to the ones used by the Empire and Rebels in the OT. There were two desert planets and one of them was Tatooine! The trilogy ends with the birth of Luke and Leia, and Anakin fully becoming the cyborg we know him as from the OT. The last things we see are Vader and Palpatine (with a few seconds of Tarkin) watching the construction of the Death Star, Leia on Alderaan and Luke with Owen and Beru on Tatooine, in a shot that's a direct callback to one of the most iconic shots in the original film.

I agree, it makes sense for all the returning characters to be there. Same with the Empire still being around. Palpatine and Vader being defeated is more like assassinating the president or prime minister of a country, it won't make the entire government collapse.

I just listened to the lines back-to-back, and they are definitely taken from ROTJ. The "you have that power, too" has just been moved to after the other lines. That's the only line that MAY have been re-recorded as it sounds like it might be ever so slightly different. But the other four are definitely exact lifts, and possibly all 5.

Remember that the former Empire is now a group of systems that may or may not be aligned with each other. First Order is probably referring to this particular unit of troops, and not necessarily a larger organization.

Yep, I'd go further and say that "you have that power too" is also exactly the same, I compared the two yesterday and there's no doubt in my mind.

I am just psyched for the livestream of the BATTLEFRONT panel in a couple hours.

It's probably the game that's going to make me finally buy a PS4.

I thought it was Tatooine too mate, I did a double-take when I heard a different name during the panel. It's very hard to disassociate ourselves from what we've seen so far, we only have to think Star Wars along with sand, snow and forest, for, Tatooine, Hoth and Endor to pop into our heads.
