Picked up my glasses too earlier this week. Watching the film in 2D, but the glasses were too smart to pass up. My local VUE only had Stormtrooper and Kylo Ren. Had no info on any others being available, but i think i got the best 2 anyway, so very happy.

Every major Hollywood studio releases some kind of brief synopsis but, as always, not only did Lucasfilm lie to fans but so did Kathleen Kennedy. I can understand Lucasfilm wanting to keep details about the movie secret but this smacks of idiot, moronic J.J. Abrams is not revealing anything about the movie he's producing. The man is a sociopath and I expected better from Lucasfilm. Instead, they got sucked into demands from Abrams, AGAIN.

But, I disagree that what I posted isn't considered major. The fact that she is wielding a very specific weapon is a major spoiler that nobody at Lucasfilm wanted revealed before the movie was released. But, to slap legal sanctions on websites because someone posted a photograph of the toy/spoiler, it's ridiculous. If anything, Lucasfilm should have been more forthcoming.

Hell, you can't find out anything about the new Star Wars movie because J.J. Abrams has infected Hollywood with the type of security that is usually the purview of national security interests.
Relax. Go get a massage. Meditate. You're way too invested in this. Abrams is not a sociopath, but quite frankly, you sound like you might be.

Personally, I liked it lot better in the days before the internet when little was known about most films before they premiered and even people who had seen them generally didn't spoil them. You release too much information about a film and you've killed any surprises and all excitement by the time it's released. That happens far too often today - there's so much marketing and internet discussion that the film "burns out" before release.

You can put down Kennedy and Abrams all you want, but considering the huge advance ticket sales, their coup in forcing theaters to play this on the biggest screens for the longest time period and the fact that most analysts are projecting that this film might be the #1 grosser of all time, they've done everything right.

Having said that, I'm sure the fanboys and internet trolls will find plenty to complain about or the opposite: they'll love it and everyone else will hate it. We might even get some revisionism and people loving George Lucas again. But none of it really matters. Each person will decide whether they like or hate the film for themselves and regardless of their preference, that doesn't really matter either. The world and the movie business will go on. The only people to be really affected either way are Disney's executives and stockholders.

Think about it: We've got ISIS, the Paris attacks, the U.S. attacks, people getting killed by guns every day, a leading candidate for President who is running a cynical, racist, xenophobic, sexist campaign; a poor economy in most of the world, global warming, racist cops, etc., etc., and you're enraged because a movie studio didn't release as much information about a Star Wars movie as you'd like in advance of release which is only a week away anyway.

Nothing wrong and much great with true 15/70 IMAX. Nothing wrong with laser IMAX (although to be truthful, I haven't seen it yet).

The only problem is that I see you're in NYC and we're not getting either 15/70 or laser IMAX for Star Wars. The Lincoln Square must have pulled out their 70mm IMAX projector and they don't have the laser projectors installed yet. So we're getting "plain 'ol" digital IMAX, which is bearable in 2D, but generally too dim in 3D.

Because of that, assuming the film gets decent reviews, I'll see it at the AMC Prime with Dolby Vision/Atmos.

Man I just cannot get on the hype train. I love Star Wars but I just don't think this is gonna be THAT good and everyone is setting themselves up for disappointment if it's not GREAT. I just don't see anything that can make this great like the originals. The prequels were just about as hyped when they were coming out AND they had good actors coming in like Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson and they still sucked. This has extremely amateur actors, and it's too late for the vet actors they are TOO old now. Like they seem way to careless about it now.

Idk maybe in being too negative, but maybe that's a good thing because my expectations won't be sky high like the masses.

My issues with the prequels was more of the slap sticky comedy and Lucas's directing. I think the darker storyline following the original trilogy and Abrams directing is why I have more hope that it will deliver than the prequels did. Hell, if Kylo Ren makes is past one movie it will already have delivered more for me.

The only amateur in the cast that I know of is Daisy Ridley. Every other actor has proved themselves capable. Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Domnhall Gleeson, Adam Driver, and even John Boyega have all proven themselves as very capable actors.

Daisy has already given a better performance in the trailers than Natalie Portman did the entire prequel trilogy. There's also no such thing as being to old to act, which is really weird to say. Remember: everyone either died young or dies old. The lucky ones get to be old. Hopefully you get to be 74, and if you do, hopefully you'll get to be as healthy as Harrison Ford. Not many do.

There's nothing wrong with being excited for a movie. I think you're being hard on it, fair enough if the prequels left you cold, but I think this movie is going to be almost as good as anything we got in the OT. From our one firsthand view on here by a certain member, that seems to be the case.

Not only have they proven themselves, they're all incredibly great actors. Daisy Ridley is the only wild card, but as you said, even her performance in the trailers so far has been very good. People get so crazy over name talent anyway. Do we remember where Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford were before Star Wars? Small actors who hadn't done much, and Ford was a carpenter. Not exactly the most profound actors, and they were the leads over guys like Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing, and the movies turned out great.

As for the main trio being too old...No way. Mark Hamill is 64, Fisher is 59, and Ford is 73. How is that too old? I'm glad their health, especially Ford's, is good enough that he can still act and make movies like this. It's not like they're playing their characters right after Return of the Jedi...They characters have aged with the times, so there's nothing "too old" about it.

Small segment of the upcoming 60 minutes special showing Williams directing. Sounds awesome.

Anyone else terrified of their crowd being horrible? I recently had the worst movie experience of my life when I saw Mockingjay Part 2. I paid 17 dollars a seat, and have waited my entire life for this film. I'm going to be crushed if someone ruins this film for me.

I rarely will go to movies opening weekend because of my experiences with inconsiderate crowd members, but I'm making an exception here. I have found that the auditoriums with the large leather reserved seating seem to help due to it being smaller crowds and the people are spaced out a bit more so there is less tendency to talk to the person next to you

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Where I live, usually, as soon as the movie premieres, the fans go see it first, so everyone is respectful, and when the movie has been there for a few weeks, casuals go to see it and those are the ones who don't really care and make noise, talk, bring their babies, etc

Of course, why would any of the theaters in CT have any!

All I have to say, who do I have to kill around her to get a pair of those 3D glasses that were offered in the UK!!!

I think it's great that everyone is into the movie, but I just don't want there to be an overabundance of excitement. Like people cheering and screaming at every little thing that happens. There are some spots where it's guaranteed to happen, like Luke showing up for the first time. But I've been to some films where there are those individuals that have to react to every damn thing, and it's freaking annoying.

I certainly hope that is the case with true Star Wars fans flooding theaters opening weekend. But my experience with other franchises such as the Marvel movies and Hunger Games as a previous post had mentioned, is that it's just people going because it's popular, but they end up talking and texting the whole damn time. I physically slapped the phone out of some a$$hat's hand once...which admittedly was the wrong thing to do, but it felt good at the moment

Yeah... I'm not going to let other people take away something that I'm excited about. That's just stupid. You'll just end up staying in your home becoming a shut in with that way of thinking.
